Title: Desert unit?
Post by: SHANE(WA) on August 05, 2008, 11:34:42 PM
Has anyone seen or heard of any nice bucks taken from here? I have seen several pics from bucks taken from this unit and I wouldnt take those deer in a OTC North Eastern Wa unit.Back in 04 I saw all the rifle killed deer and laughed and cant seem to figure out the hype over this unit. My buddies have said the same thing, there are better areas in this state that are OTC, why would someone apply for this unit and use their points. Maybe I just have missed something over the years.

Yeah, there ain't no bucks in there I wouldn't waste my points either!

OTC is always better than controlled hunts especially in eastern Washington!

Nope no big ones out there.  ;)

The main reason guys dont kill big bucks is because they assume since it is limited entry and become a very saught after unit, it will be a walk in the park. Not true. The guys that know the unit and draw, kill big bucks. You dont see them because they dont want anyone to. Very very difficult unit to put down a big one.

timberstalker shot a nice buck in the desert a couple years ago, maybe he'll post his pick. it was an older buck that was probably regressing. I know of two other good ones that friends killed, one was a 32" 4pt in the 170s and the other was a 183" 4pt.

it's a good unit but also overrated.

This is the most informative thread in the history of hunting-washington.com.

Just to add a little more information, I have an uncle who's friends brother-in-laws neighbors cousin told another guy that there are big bucks in that unit. You guessed it, I can't post the pics.

You are right Wea300mag but I am sick of people saying their are no big buck or bulls in a unit. we have some great hunting oppertunitys in our state and i get tired of the pessimism sure they are not around every corner but thats what make those big boys special. sure everything fishing hunting used to be better but come on give it a rest.
By the way i have seen the pics and I will ask him if i can post one.
