How important is the wind? Will they always try and "downwind" you? I hunt coyotes a lot and know this to be the most important consideration but what about bears.
Going out with a buddy this weekend to try to call one up but I really don't know much about calling the buggers.
Thanks, sorry if this has been addressed. Seen a lot of calling info but I wanted more specifics on wind.

Well since they can tell what flavor lifesaver is in your pocket from the next zip code, yep the wind is important, however I have had several bears come in without them bring worried about the wind. But as more and more folks call and spook them, they will start to circle more often. I still always play the wind and try and call at least cross wise to where I hope they come in from. Good luck!!!

Fred is right. The only thing predictable about a bear is that they can be unpredictable. We have had them come within yards from the downwind side and we can only assume that they are curious.
