So I am looking at upgrading my vortex tripod to something top notch! Almost pulled the trigger on the outdoorsmans lightweight hunting medium tripod with the pistolgrip panhead but didn't want to jump the gun too soon without asking for comments on that setup or suggestions for others. Any thoughts?

I got the chance to use the Outdoorsman this last trip to NWT. Came home and purchased one immediately. I've used some copies and was never impressed enough to pull the trigger on purchasing. This one is like butter, easily adapts to camera for photos and works even dirty and wet. I thought is was a little over priced, but the more I use it the more I forget about that. Two thumbs up from me

That's interesting because I grew up using my dad's Outdoorsman tripod and I hated it. I recently purchased the best Velbon tripod that was not carbon fiber and love it.
I hated the pistol grip on the Outdoorsmen. It couldn't hold the Swaro steady enough. The extending legs always seemed to jam at the most inopportune time. One leg would always get stuck in the "out" position and then wouldn't collapse back towards the center.
I also have an old Slik tripod probably 30 years old that works great and ways next tO nothing. It holds the Swaro better than the pistol head Outdoorsman and I even use it for my DSLR camera.

Gitzo carbon fiber tripod with outdoorsman pistol grip head. It works awesome with my 65 mm swaro, and total weight is around 5#
