Title: 3 or 4 hole turrent press
Post by: seth30 on May 24, 2012, 08:56:30 AM: I am going to buy a LEE Turrent press but not sure what the difference between the two are. Can those that reload explain the pros and cons of these, or which one you would recommend?

For handgun ammo, the extra hole gives you the option to add a crimping die seperate from the seating die if you want those in different steps. It does mean an extra pull of the handle for no reason if you don't go that route. Not a huge issue in my book.

I have a lee Classic Turrett press (4 holer), LOVE it!

I have the Lee 1000 and the Dillon 550.

I wouldn't waste my money again on the Lee. Biggest problem is the primer feed and chute, both will jam. The Lee also will get out of time. Unless they changed the design, if the primer doesn't get completely seated it will jam the machine.

I use it as a single stage but like the fact that I cankeep 2 sets of dies in ech head and just swap shell holderand turret heads to change calibers and dot have to spend time screwing in dies. I have seven heads set up with dies. I used to have two turret presses on the bench and one large single stage and didn't have enough.. the Lee eliminated one press and really speeds things up for me.

Post by: h20hunter on May 25, 2012, 01:13:33 PM: Agreed the change out is nice. That is why I have a change out on my 550. Pull two pins, slide it out, put the other one in, drop pins in, change out shell plate, load, shoot, drink beer.

I would assume like anything each press has its quirks. Lee makes fine products and you will figure out what works best for you.

Neat concept. Let us know how it works out! I've used an RCBS single-stage press for 40 years. Too old to change now. :rolleyes:

Great choice! Youll be very happy, I reload everything from .380 auto to 7mm mag on my turrett, use it as a single stage or whatever you want. Love that it takes no time at all to change die sets and they are all setup all the time!

Post by: JohnVH on May 30, 2012, 07:47:31 AM: You bet, I load 7mm mag on it like a single stage, but I still do one case start to finish instead of doing a whole bunch of one stage. If you take the center part out that makes it rotate its just a single stage press with all the dies setup all the time.
