After passing on a small one two weeks ago and hitting one with my jeep 2 days ago on the way to my hunting spot, I finally took a shot today. Good blood trail that ended by a swamp where the bear had obviously laid down for awhile by the amount of blood on the ground. Problem is the blood trail ends there and theres no tracks headin into the swamp. Going to continue looking in the morning.

Id give ya a hand till 2 pm if ya want...

Best of luck to you on your search. My best tip is to try to get down wind of the area you think the bear might be. A bear has a real smell to them and a lot of times a guy can smell them before you see them. This is no joke, but a honest tip.
It for sure looks like the bear was hit back and maybe a liver shot by the color of that blood. A lot of times they will head to wet area's to try to roll and seal up a wound. It look's like he is bleeding good so put some solid effort into it and you should be able to find him.

Looks like liver. dead bear by am. dealt with  that last year and bumped him but got em the next day. Good luck with it time will do him in

The exact same thing happened to me. Tracked great blood trail half mile.Next day I Found cedar island in the middle of swamp where he laid down and bled a ton. Clots just like your pics. On the third day looking for it I spooked a deer. Followed deer trail and found recent blood drops on a log. Very small and the only two I found there. Most likely from bear as I was on private land and only one hunting that I knew of. Point is I was half a mile away and nearly in the same spot I shot bear. Hope this helps you. Good luck. Amazing how much they can bleed and clot up. My shot was in neck and bear was standing 15 yards in front of me. I know poor placement but I was little freaked out.

-

I'm in Duvall and could help for a few hours today if you need it.

It's hard to judge a hit on a bear by a blood trail. My opinion is that's not much blood. May be a lethal shot but could be flesh wound too. :twocents:

I live in Sultan more tha willing to help!!!!

When you see enough animals shot it makes it a little easier to tell the type of hits. Bears do not bleed well and with that color and amount of blood he hit something vital, probably liver. The 2nd picture looks like there is a little lung blood in it with the foam on the left side of that stump. Most looks like the darker blood you get from a liver shot.
-
Any news?????? :dunno: :dunno:
-
DANG ....Thought I was going to see a bear ...after lookin at that picture of the darker blood I think it was hit back and low .... it happens and this is why I always shoot at the shoulder and they do not run off .....just my opinion ! Hope you find him !
-
Drock is out helping....no news yet of a recovery.

If indeed I'm wrong and it's liver there should be recovery soon.

One thing for sure! Lot's of good people out there willing to help
Bear's are tuff and can take a lot to bring down. We found one that was shot back about 1200yards from where it was shot. If it got into a swamp it could be tricky. In normal cover they would have a good chance. I keep hoping to see a post with bear down in it!

I helped look this morning before work. crazy amounts of blood to two beds and then nothing at all anywhere. looked like liver blood if I was to guess but there can't be.much blood left in the bear after what I saw. really thick underbrush where the blood ended so you basically need to step on him to find it .good luck men he's out there somewhere
-
Sounds like he was a hurting unit and lost a lot of blood. They are hard as heck to spot in that thick crap when they are down. I hope they have luck and can find him.
-
did you guys check and make sure he did not double back on his own trail ?

yup twice but who knows. lost blood by a swampy creek hope they find that bugger
-
A little off topic but is it legal to leave weapons behind and use hounds for recovery purpose. What about a "stranger" :chuckle: just walking his dog thru the woods?
-
yeah I know they are tuff ...my buddy shot one one time and he swears he center punched it with his bow ...after seeing all the blood I was thinking he did not make it far ...it was in a swampy area too .... after tracking it about a 1/2 mile we came to a wallow where the bear layed up in the mud ....one bloody hole for sure but after that we found nothen ....it was crazy but it got away .

It's amazing how often this happens.

I helped look for a while this afternoon and got soaked. Whatever blood was there has now washed away. Brush is so think you can't look down and see your own feet. As far as I know they're still searching but it doesn't look good to be honest.
-
Dang I was hoping that you guys would have found him by now. shame but that's hunting. man bears are tough

what was the total distance the bear has traveled since it was shot?
-
I'm glad to see that you guys are giving it your all. Awesome sportsmanship. And if it isn't found then that is just the way it goes sometimes.
-
Wish I saw this post earlier, I would have been there for some help
Good luck guys

Glad to hear all the effort put forth. Wish I couldve helped...been swamped. They are so tough of an animal, it never ceases to amaze me. My monroe spring bear when about a 1/4 mile in brush like you've described. Tough pill to swallow if you dont find it. Thanks for the effort, best of luck if ya'll are still searching.
-
Searched hard, lotsa man hours between me, my dad, d-rock and johnny. Thanks all for helping. All the rain up there yesterday certainly didn't help in picking up his blood trail after the place where he had bedded. By the time D-rock came early in the afternoon what had looked like a murder scene was completely washed away. I'm pretty beat up now after hunting and tracking the last 4 days for sure.

Part of the course sometimes.....
-
Sorry man, I have been there. You did all you can do that is all any of us could ask for. :'(
-
Any word on the search? Or is it over?
-
Deep flesh wound. He lives on!
-
I feel the pain. I lost only bear I shot also. He did live, cousin still gets his pics on game camera. Getting bigger too!
-
Damn I hate these kind of stories stories. Bears are very tough critters and live in very brushy areas here on the Wetside though.
-
bummer :cryriver: but thanks for sharing and maybe it will help someone in the future!!
