I was thinking of buying a pallet of shotgun shells.
I priced xperts #2 2 3/4 1 1/8 last year and they were around $6.50
I haven't check since this time last year.
there is 30 cases per pallet.
I know I will take 10 or 15.
I would be open to other brands. Remington, Federal blue box, estate.
I am open to 1 1/8 or 1 1/4
I am set on 2 3/4'' maybe 3'' if the price is low enough.
I am set on #2
Anyone interested is 15-20 cases?
If push comes to shove I will take 15 cases myself.
-
THAT is the way to buy ammo! I normally buy 3" so its not what i would use... Have you ever priced out Kent rounds?
-
Lol I keep telling him to price Kents. I burn about 5 cases a year. But I won't shoot experts.
-
Hmmmmm..... I'm a big fan of the 3" Fiocci and I like the Federal blue box in 3" also.
I like the idea but I'll have to think about it. I use more on the order of 2 to 2-1/2 cases a year. Not sure I want a 5 year suply on hand? Or do I? :chuckle:
-
My favorite round is Kens 3" #3's i rarely find the damn things... Buying by the several case is definitely the way to go... I wish i had the cash to buy 5 case and get in on a deal like that...
-
I don't know to many guys that are shooting the 2-3/4" shells for ducks anymore. Most everyone uses 3" with a few that shoot only 3-1/2" for ducks. The Winchesters work fine, kill lots of ducks with them. I do however prefer the Kent's and typically shoot #2. I had purchased 6 or 7 cases last year. I may have two cases left.
-
2 3/4 work just as well for me. I am not interested in going 3''.
I don't really like kents as they have put a really poor taste in my mouth because I seem to have more problems with duds when they get wet.
I can price kent 2 3/4'' #2 1 1/16, 1 1/8, 1 1/4 if anyone is interested.
pm me if anyone wants to do a group buy with me. tell me what loads you would be interested in.

A local ma and pa shop down by me carries Kent 3" 3's. I usually start with that load early season and bump to 3.5" 2s towards Dec when I move toward divers. My guns pattern the heavy loads better then the 3".

I prefer the spagetti loads too :chuckle: Do not hear of many using 2 3/4 shells with steel...unless your a very disciplined fowler who lets the birds get within 20 yrds or so :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
It can be done BH45 one year i got a smoking deal on a few boxes of 2.75 Steel #6... I actually limited out on those a few times. They were close tho. :chuckle:
-
It sounds like a lot of different likes out there. Can you do a mixed pallet.

Not and still get price break.

Lots of places the hunter can only take 25 shells. So no sky busting or go home early.
Reading some of these shell use stories per year has me confused. When in school I hunted 3-4 days per week jumping ducks, pheasants, and hunting geese and never came close to shooting a case on the best years. 8 boxes 200 loads that's a lot of shooting in the Field. Even 50% at the plate that's 100 birds.
-
I went through a case of ten gauge and two of 12. Can't hit em if ya don't shoot and I'm a 3" man myself.

Shoot more divers or sea ducks and those numbers go out the window. I also leave boxes in my buddies boats, on purpose as a thank you. Plus my wife hunts. I don't actually shoot that many shells. Although I was in the field like 70 days this year.
-
I never said ( I ) never used 2 3/4 ....I said not many people do .... I used to always use 2 3/4 Many years back but I like a 3 " better...I have my own rule when duck hunting ...If I can not see their eyes I do not not waste shells or at least the white band on a greenheads neck ...Not much into sky busting just so I can hear my gun go bang bang bang 8) :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Jump shooting is entirely different that hunting in a group of over decoys. Plenty of times that bird get shot by more than one person, birds get tougher to kill once they start flaring and are much harder to hit then when jump shooting, etc. I did a lot of jump shooting in college and it was relatively easy to kill a bird at least one out of two shots. Plenty of times getting a triple was easy. Not so easy on decoying birds.
Also, plenty of people kill well over 100 birds a year....
-
I personally killed over 250 and I'm a terrible shot. If I have 1 kill for every 10 shells that I either gave away, dropped in water, let rust to garbage, and put through my shotgun, I'd be impressed. I don't plan on shooting these all in one season. more like two seasons. and even if I did what's it to you? I merely asked if anyone wanted to split a pallet of shells. Why can't we leave it at that?

Wow you are one lucky guy to get that much time off!! im jealous  wish i was you! being 15 i have to go to school :bash: 250 birds means that you would have to limit out about 36 days :yike:

I went through a case of ten gauge and two of 12. Can't hit em if ya don't shoot and I'm a 3" man myself.
For me it's bang, swat, and splash stone dead for each shot. I get real frustrated with myself when I'm taking multiple shots per bird or cripples.
I don't know or care about anyone here but my experience at the public refuge, some of the shots others try, makes me wonder if that was even legal. But my attitude is hunt the way I was taught and let others do what they want, even if it means educating birds all morning long.

If you're worried about birds getting educated you're not doing it correctly. Ducks live for up to and sometimes longer than 20 years. What would be illegal about a hunter taking any shot as long as it was within a legal hunting area and within legal shooting time with legal equipment? Get off your high horse and get back on a donkey. You're not any better than anyone else on here.

You must be one hell of a duck hunter. and here you were gonna give it up earlier this year. shame. there would probably be thousands more ducks around if you would just quit killing em all.

Yes jumping ducks can be easy because the shots are about the same, they are always on the rise. Also it seems most of the time there is just one good bird to pick out and by the time after the swing to the other target, the duck is almost gone. The fun is when other ducks jump in the bead after the 1st shot while jumping water. For decoys to get that scenario, is when a flock comes in the deks and letting the first one touch down and shoot the far duck or goose breast up and the ones in the deks jump into the bead as well.
Decoying takes practise to hold and not move. Lots is running through your mind do I or don't I. Are the birds going to finish or are they going to bail. Two are fluttering over the deks but is the flock of five out there going to follow them in? Should we take the two that won't sit down before they bail or the five cupping our way should be given a chance to decoy as well? My experience is take the the one or two that won't sit. Then if a flock comes in and starts to swirl flare it gets hard picking out drakes with others in the blind shooting. On a good day they decoy so you can jump them out of the deks as if they where in a ditch.

It's easy to do. Hunt rich, live poor.

I'm impressed, 2 cases a year, wow!
I would expect a guy shooting that much would get pretty good at it.
I average a duck every 3 shells most seasons, and I'm a poor shot. 2 cases would be 160 ducks or so for me.
I couldn't imagine eating that much duck.

If the winds cranking I'm out hunting ducks. Try figuring out leads when it's 20- 30+ mph which is comon in the bay. If your 2-6' lead at 30 yards isn't on, on your first shot it may be a miss and the following two are even worse. You can burn through some shells. The other shell eaters are snows. Early season they decoy well, later in the season they become tall shots in many cases. I practice all season and early season, I will shoot a case or two of inexpensive steel at 5 stand to get dialed in.

I'd be interested. Not to picky on ammo, so whatever is decided. Maybe let us know what the final price is.

What is wrong with sharing the birds in the air and helping out another hunter injured? I sucks being treated like a person with no name when hurt. I only wish there was one hell of a hunter that day because one hell of a hunter does not turn their back on someone injured and say shame because they didn't quit.
