Some of you might remember a few weeks ago I was going in to pull my Idaho bear bait because it only had small bears on it and move it to a place near Avery, ID, but the big boy showed up and I was lucky enough to get him the next day. Well my friend at work had been hoping to help me with bear baiting this year so I told him I had been doing some scouting using Google maps and had this area I was going to move my bait to. We went in and scouted and found a spot that literally had 30+ piles of bear scat, from old scat to very fresh scat. There was even a spot he laid at so much is was nothing but dirt. The only thing missing was the remote to his TV. :chuckle: So we set the bait up. He wasn't able to go back for 5 days and I was worried that we hadn't taken in enough bait to keep them coming back if they'd hit it soon after we put it in. He went back and it hadn't been touched. :o I gave him a beaver to take in and he went back the next day and a bear was on the bait. Next day he took more bait in and was going to set on the bait. It was a perfect bow set-up. He got into the bait and before he could even settle in here comes the first bear. He was real tempted to shoot this bear since he'd never taken one with a bow but decided to wait. Good thing. The smaller bear was there about an hour, while it was there, my friend dropped his camera, oops. Once the bear moved off he climbed down to get it, looked up and the small bear was sitting on the hill watching him. 8) Shortly after that a really nice cinimmom bear came strolling in, snagged a piece of meat and left, then came back in a few minutes later and he double lunged him from 15 yards away. Bear ran 20 yards let out a long death moan and piled up. While he was trying to gut it two more bears came in, one came in to 20 yards and stood there looking at him. He had to shout and fire his pistol to get it to move off 40 yards and then it just sat there waiting for him to leave so it could get on the bait. Great hide, no rubs, about a 8 year old bear 240-250ish. Really nice bear.
