Ok, everyone
here is a long range shoot much like what i did at the Sportsman's Challenge here in eastern wa, but this will be held at Killgore Adentures on the Salmon river just outside of White bird, ID.
This shoot will be held Labor day weekend the 1st,2nd and 3rd of September
There is a campground on the shore of the Salmon river that has some full RV hookups and then dry camping spots for tents and/or campers. on the campground there is showers and restroom facilities. Killgore has a motel just 2 miles down the road, also in the area there is hotels and other lodging facilities in the area with Riggins, Grangeville and White bird being the closest to the event.
The shoot will be have two courses (big and small game). For the small game course you will have 20-25 minutes to shoot all the targets. The big game course will be split up in half with the amount of targets so barrels can cool and to keep the weather changes fair for the majority, so if there are 14 big game targets we will shoot the first 7 and run the whole list of shooters through and then once the list is complete we will start them all over again shooting the next 7 targets. this will also keep people more involved with less waiting time in between shooting times. On the big game course time will vary depending on how many people will be shooting, but most likely there will be about 15 minutes to shoot your 7 targets. if there is a large amount of people who show up to shoot we may have two people on the firing line shooting at a time, but with some space between them. At the beginning of the shoot there will be an allotted time so that everyone will be able to range and sketch the targets, helping you when you get up to the firing line.
small game: big game:
all steel wood frames w/ steel vitals
Ranges 150-550 yards 500-1000 yards
- You will be able to have a partner with you while you are on the line to help with ranging and calling out drop information
- small game calibers .308 caliber and smaller excluding all magnum cartridges.
for more match information and registration go to: www.sportsmanschallenge.weebly.com and look at the course of fire/ rules
to check out the campground and see pictures or to get a hold of Killgore Adventures go to : killgoreadventures.com
registration would be appreciated through the sportsman's challenge website

That sounds like alot of fun. I went to the Camp Patriot shoot in Kettle Falls a couple a weeks ago. They shot out of a helicopter......way cool !!! Gotta miss this one though. People don't know what they're missing.
-
I will definately be looking into these shoots next year. Just ordered my Savage 10FCP HS Precision. Still have to get some glass and time behind it before elk season, but this seems like alot of fun.
-
you could always bring a different gun. there will be shoots going on next year i am sure. these ones are fun now cause there are some real good guys that have shown interest and i have a couple real nice places to hold shoots rite now.
keep an eye out for shoots and pass the word if you know someone who may be interested
-
I definately will. Confined to my el cheapo .270 right now, which is fine for hunting to about 500, but not much farther than that with the current setup. I will pass it along to my shooting buddies, though.
-
sounds good to me thanks, and if you felt like getting some practice with it bring it to my small game shoot june 23rd and shoot some small game targets. you shoot them you can hit deer and elk
-
Thinking that if the match takes all of one day which I am sure it will, then the next day maybe we can take a couple targets and get them set out at some ranges from 1000 to maybe 15 or 1600 yards and we could shoot our best shot on a certain target for a gift certificate or if you guys wanted to do some side bet or something we could do that too. Maybe you guys who are trying to get in to some 1000 yard clubs or just want to practice so you could make a coyote kill past a 1000 then we could set some out there for you.
-
If it was closer and wasn't in between checks, i could probably talk the wife into it. mayne next time.
-
we will see you at the next one
-
working on getting a couple manufacturers to come to the event and show some of their product. waiting on word from Nightforce and MGM targets
-
went down to the Killgore ranch today and check out where we all will be shooting. there is lots of country to shoot in along with angles that you will need to compensate for. looks like the way we will have it set up is with two big game courses so people have a chance to let their barrels cool and then one small game course. there will be a fair amount of parking near in between the 1st big game point and and the small game point. there is an access road that stretches from between the points so there will be some walking from point to point, but not a whole lot.
the match will be held saturday with sunday holding some fun shooting. looking at having a target at maybe 1200, one at 1400 and then have one target set rite at a mile so guys who would like to try a shot at those distances can. probably do a 5$ per shooter fee that day and will split that up trhough those shoots and maybe have some gift certificates from different manufacturers for people that make first round hits.
looking like this event will be a lot of fun with 1st place prizes of possibly a nightforce scope for big game and then a kel tec .22 magnum pistol or something for a small game first place.
there is going to be some bbq available for dinner, some lunches and lots of good people to bs with.
-
top prizes to be announced the 4th of july
trying to get a nightforce scope, but may have a rifle or two
-
Dang, gonna have to try and find a way to get down there. I dont think its gonna happen since my wife and I have to go to Gig Harbor the prior weekend, but maybe if I beg hard enough......
We will see....also have to get some glass for the new .308
-
let her know there may be some jet boat rides for her to go on, hang out by the river if she would like to and saturday night we may have a country singer come and perform should be good times.
-
may be getting some live country music for saturday night after dinner and awards
-
we are getting a few more people signed up for this match and just tuesday berger bullets sent me some certificates good for three boxes of bullets
-
go to the website and check out the video clip i added to the main page www.sportsmanschallenge.weebly.com (http://www.sportsmanschallenge.weebly.com)
thanks to: flybuster
-
Got a maybe for the trip. Leaning towards a yes, i think cause the wife likely has to work that weekend. We will see next month when she gets September's schedule. Joe said if I can go he would probably go too :chuckle: We will see.
-
good, lets hope she has to work then!
-
a couple questions:
is it a timed shoot or is it for accuracy?
is it ok to just come out and watch?
-
it is timed, but with plenty of time to make a good shot. sure it is ok to come and watch, but dont be mad at your self if you dont bring your rifle and once you have seen some shooting you get mad cause you want to shoot. hope you come and watch
-
go to www.sportsmanschallenge.weebly.com (http://www.sportsmanschallenge.weebly.com) and check out the radio interview i did promoting the sportsman's challenge as well as the shoot coming labor day
-
we have two vortex scopes for the top prizes
a 6-24 viper for the big game
and a 4-16 viper hs for the small game
i have some berger bullet certificates and other stuff is on its way
-
Are there going to be different classes for turrets and straight pipes? Might bring the 270 for the short course if they are gonna be seperated. I know you weee talking about it last rime, so thought id ask. Probably depends on number of shooters and sponsor prizes, I would suspect.
-
i would like to have different classes, but it does take more sponsorship and coordination. maybe if there are enough shooters i could do a berger bullet certificate. but yes if there were enough people i would like to do it.
-
Thinking about trying to go to this.... Might have to teach my wife to be a spotter...
Sent from my sniper hide...
-
Thats what I figured. Kinda pointless to seperate them if there arent prizes to cover everybody. Just thought I'd ask. The new load Joe and i worked up for my 270 is coming along really well for such a light bullet. Cold bored a 16 oz water bottle at 490 yds with it this weekend.
-
madhatter,
you should she will have other wives to watch shoot and maybe in courage her to want to try a few shots. my buddy brought his wife and daughter to my small game shoot last month and now his wife is hooked and his daughter took third beating her brother and two others.
feanix,
i don't know why you wouldn't bring the 270 and try for the scope. that thing sounds like its doing well. the small game shouldn't go to much further that your water bottle(shouldn't is relative).
the sportsman's challenge in may the farthest small game target was a coyote at about 590 yards
-
I was thinking the same thing, but looking to win the scope for my new 308. Maybe I'll just bring them both and win both scopes! haha
-
that's a plan i am hoping to be able to shoot the match my self, but if i am to do well i wont be taking any prizes.
i always get to shoot after everyone is done, but not with or during the match/ shoot so maybe ill get to throw some rounds down range.
-
To bad this is laber day thats opening bear.
-
hells canyon long range shoot is coming quick get registered to win the vortex scopes
-
And one of the rules is, you can't use any magnum calibers? Is that what I saw? :'(
-
for the small game that is correct .308 caliber cartridges and smaller no magnums
for the big game its fine
-
getting a few more prizes from sponsors as well as getting a few more shooters registered.
should be a lot of fun, with ribs + bbq available for dinner, lots of cool targets with challenging shots.
-
looking at about 25-30 shooters so far. check the shoot out and get registered.
