Benchleg. You can tell by the tongue.
-

What's the difference in a blacktail and a mulies tongue? I've never heard that was a way to tell them apart.
-
was it solid snow line or shade snow? men wknd we hit snow solid around 3800, just trying to figure out how much its gone up..
oh and on topic, clearly a coues deer...
-
I was in patchy snow around 4000 feet...then the trail turned and headed along the north side and that was all solid up to where it broke back out on the ridge on the south west side it was back to patches I turned around after I seen the buck figured I had pushed my luck...no fun hiking snow

Mulies tongues are pinkish. Blacktails are pinkish. That tongue is pinkish so it must be a combo of both. :chuckle: :hello:

Well that makes sense :chuckle:

Benchleg..just look at the tail...

Cross. It has too much white showing to be a blacktail.

No kiddin?

Benchleg is a cross. I think that they are classified as that to keep them from skewing blacktail scoring numbers with the mulie genetics. The tail dosen't look ropelike enough to be a mulie to me.
-
Bench buck, cool pics! The buck I killed in the alpine this year had the exact same tail, wish I would have taken a pic of his back end, i'd post it.
-
Cool looking blacktail..He's going to be something this year

That's how it was explained to me by a guy from Fish and Game...
-
That's a benchleg.... The tail and face structure are dead give aways....
And if you measure the brush in front of him then his legs it's more than obvious!!!!
