was curious to hear everyone ideas and thoughts of what week they'd hunt if hunting for moose what week seems to be the better week if you had to choose from Oct 1- Nov 30 for a good bull????
-
With one week to hunt, I'd get ahold of the regional biologist, see if he couldnt help me determine peak rut date, then I'd hunt the week up to that date. :twocents:
If I draw before I die, I will hunt every day.......
-
the week of 10/10
-
Talked to the biologist, and a few others, say the 1st part of the season is the best.
-
the week your buddy can go ! ;)
-
The rut should be really going the first 2 weeks of your tag, Oct 1-15.
I would go the first week myself.
-
Find a logger and ask him. I bet you'd get a real answer instead of some statistics based on an Olympia biologist that doesn't know what the real story is... Try Dana Base WDFW out of Colville.
-
Rut will be full bore on the opener thru the first 2 weeks
-
As stated the first part of October but it will be base on the weather, moose like it cold so if a warm spell is going on it may push rut back a few days.
-
Well I'd hunt any OIL tag the entire season or until it's filled. You only get to do it once and those tags are really really hard to swallow and the taste would stay with ya forever.
-
If you only have a week to hunt I'd hunt the first one. My bull was on fire from Sept 20 until the day I killed him, the first day, and it was hot. (70 plus) Others will say wait until the leaves fall, but I never made it that far and didn't have the time to hunt the whole season.
-
Like others have said, you have to be there for the first week.

Rut first week, Snow and no leaves last week

Yep

Honestly it will depend on your style of hunting.......if you call, first week of October, if you road hunt, second/3rd week of October, if you spot and stalk, 1st or second week of november.

I'd go the first week no matter what. I'd want to hunt without all the deer hunters in the woods.

A once in a lifetime draw and you are limiting your time to one week? :o

Easy now...he's one of my stronger techs. :chuckle:
I think he's planning to go for a solid week and then some more weekend trips if needed. Not sure...but thats what I think his plan is.

-
I'd have to be thwre opening day no way i couldn't be I'd go crazy.
-
you know who he's going with if we cant find a good bull in a week he dosn't deserve a tag.
-
Lots of good advice here, but the BEST advice (IMHO) is to go when your buddies can go too. Take it from someone who tried to do it alone... TAKE FRIENDS. LOTS of friends. Or a helicopter.

They were in hot rut and very callabale the first week of Oct.
