I've shot 4 cows out of there since the permit began and drew one Malaga any Elk tag. It used to be not even as many people applied as there were tags at the beginning. Everyone that put in was drawn. It's a good area. There are local elk that move through out it, most of the elk move back and forth between the public and private land on the Upper Basin Loop Rd near the Upper Wheeler Ridge Rd boundary. Around here it will still be dry and warm when your permit starts, they like to be around water in the evenings. There are several creeks in the area but if the pressure isn't on you will find them lounging on the wet banks of the reseeding resivours.

PM me and I will give you further details if you like. I helped a buddy pack one out just above Black Lake year before last and ran across a heard last year 4 or 5 times in the general area that had 20 plus cows and 10 or so bulls.

I run into Elk all the time in the unit while trout fishing.
