Title: SESRC wildlife survey
Post by: dreamingbig on February 27, 2020, 07:22:28 PM

Did anyone else receive this survey ?  Is this group pro hunting?  How is it related to WDFW?

Some of the email:

The Social & Economic Sciences Research Center (SESRC) at WSU is implementing this survey on behalf of WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact the SESRC Wildlife Survey Project Team at SESRC.Wildlife@wsu.edu, or call 1-800-833-0867 and indicate you are calling about the Wildlife Management Survey.

Yes, I received it as well as a hunting buddy and nephew . It appears to be related to hoof rot research .

I did the survey, it was as pretty interesting.  It seems WSU will be making some change recommendations soon. It didn’t seem they were affiliated with WDFW but there was a few questions about how much you trust WDFW and such

They will use that survey to draw conclusions to meet their agenda, what ever it be, otherwise it would have been straight forward questions instead of beat around the bush questions that are open to interpretation.  I took it and tried to answer safely and honestly but there were too many sneaky questions that offered no reasonable answer.......I smell a rat.

I filled it out today.  Took 15-20 minutes.

Call me skeptical but I am curious what they are asking.

:yeah: it took me a while to complete the survey safely.

I received it and took it as well.  Lots of questions about information and trust and I think we can all guess how I ranked the department.  I don't like how it forced you to input something for race and income, most surveys allow you to opt out of that.  So, I put "American" in for my race.

It's hard to tell what they are looking to get out of it, my guess would be insight on the best ways to get information on their research out and the societal importance of finding a solution to hoof rot.  Guessing further, it sounds like they may be questioning whether giving the research results to WDFW and hoping they do the right and effective thing may not be working too well, but that's a big guess on my part.

I was getting a little hint of relocation of wolves to hoof rot areas for clean up.

Yeah, they had that as well as increased tags/longer seasons, do nothing and have WDFW shoot them.

I took it and it definitely was suggesting the introduction wolves. I also added a comment at the asking them to concider the consequences that several other states are dealing with. Everyone should take it and let WDFW know what we as hunters are asking for.

Like I said in the Campfire section on this topic, let them have it in the comment section on your thoughts with wolves!

Anyone else notice on pg 24 of 24 that they misspelled biology in the header?    :chuckle:

Its never been about anything but wolves chewing ungulates to the point of protecting them (ungulates) by ending hunting.  Then they can get serious about collecting guns that no one needs.

I filled it out yesterday as well.  In the comments at the end I didn’t limit it to wolves, I stated how they have mismanaged predators as a whole.

I marked every question regarding trust of WDFW a no, I do NOT trust them. Don’t recall the exact wording for the answers.

It did seems as they were fishing in one part of it to use predators to eliminate the hoof rot issue.

No kidding! What does Party affiliation, gender, race and income have to do with hoof rot?

That survey was definitely designed to produce a predetermined result. Lots of loaded questions to keep the anti's and the WDFW management happy.

I got the feeling there were loaded questions, I didn't answer all the personal questions, it let me continue anyway.

This is an unfortunate response by all, but not surprising. The department COULD be trying to make an honest effort by using a 3rd party to gather information. Unfortunately the distrust runs so deep there is no possibility for them to gain scientific data/insight to guide them. My only concern is that a good Director and a reasonable Commission might not be able to make any head way because past department directors have squandered ANY  goodwill sportsmen may have had.

Actually there are many questions about trust. The WDFW and WSU obviously understand there are trust issues or there would not have been so many questions about trust! I was completely honest in the way I answered all the questions, but I thought carefully about them first. I was glad to see they are working on the problem, they get good grades for that, but i don't trust them at all and I was honest about that in the way I answered the questions. They need to know they are not trusted so they hopefully try to improve on that!  :twocents:

I thought the survey was great till I got to the last questions wanting my personal info and such, where I told them I make a million dollars a year ,and was born in 2020 ,and gave them the middle finger.

Thank God these clowns are not handling the C-virus or we will all be dead. This has been funded for years and nothing has been successful in stopping the spread of the disease. Another "study" designed to remove the blame from the bumbling WDFW as our elk herds are being destroyed?

Actually, I saw it as several potential studies, elk being one.
When there is a questionnaire sent to the public, there are questions added for different purposes. I could imagine a PhD dissertation in cultural anthropology as well as other fields. The data will be mined by students for years to come.

I'd like to think this is true, but years and years of the opposite say it's not.

On my survey I pretty much told them what many others here have said- "you're going to find what you want to find & what you're being paid to find.
