For sure. We have fall back OTC spots so should be hunting archery elk regardless. The unit we apply for we have each drawn once and usually takes 3-4 years to draw

Just points for me this year.  Possibly OTC archery elk.  I choose Oregon over Idaho for one reason, Oregon gives Active Duty military their resident prices!  Once I retire, I suspect I'll move over to Idaho for the vet prices

They also give free hunting, fishing licenses to disabled vets.  If you have over 30%.  My elk tag cost 14 bucks!!!  Its a great hunting place.

I did things a little different this yr for OR. I am applying for a landowner elk tag which should be 100% draw but will be restricted to hunt 14K acres of private. I also applied for Antelope with my 20 pts but unlikely I'll draw that tag. Good luck!

I'm a 30% disabled veteran but I'm not a resident of Oregon. Dose the free hunting and fishing license apply to non residents?

Not real sure, I think only residents.  I hunt washington at resident cost, being a disabled vet non-resident.  Only thing that sucks is permit apps, those are not at resident prices

Yep, I'm in for Oregon draws as always.   Based on the seed numbers compared to my app numbers I have zero chance of drawing anything this year.  Which is fine, I have my usual OTC archery elk spot.  I bought my WA multi-season deer tag and drew a muzzy anterless deer tag in WA, so no Oregon OTC deer for me this year as I'll spend most the free time trying to fill a deer tag, when I'm not elk hunting both states.    Attached seed numbers for Oregon, should anybody be interested in checking against your app number.  Draw starts at the seed number and goes up from there.  Same seed number is used in both the 75% preference points and 25% random draws.

Any thoughts on when results will be out? If memory serves, they have usually been a few days after WA in the past

If I recall correctly, Oregon has decided to always release on June 20th from now on.  But since the 20th is a Saturday, I'm assuming it will be Friday the 19th.

Here's how the draw works
Each application purchased is assigned a random 7-digit number. They will be viewable on June 2nd.
Members of the public are invited to ODFW headquarters to randomly choose a 7-digit draw seed number for each hunt series. (Call 503-947-6108 to participate in the drawing.)
Applicants for each hunt are grouped by preference points and first-choice hunt selected.
Tags are awarded in each preference point group beginning with the applicant whose 7-digit number matches, or is closest to and above, the seed number. The selection continues with the applicant having the next higher 7-digit number, until 75 percent of the tags have been awarded or until all first-choice applicants have received tags.
All remaining first-choice applicants are rearranged solely by 7-digit random number and the remaining 25 percent of tags are awarded randomly among all first-choice applicants for the hunt.
If there are tags left, the process restarts for second-choice hunt applicants. (Preference points are not a factor for awarding 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th choices.)
Any applicant who failed to draw their first-choice tag is awarded a preference point for the next year’s draw; the point will appear in the system on January 1 of the following year.

CNELK i know Idaho gives you the same privilege even for non resident disabled American Veteran. I just found it reading through their regs and emailed them a copy of my VA letter and they updated to resident/youth costs for license and tags.

It always says the 20th but has happened as early as the 12th or 13th in years past.  Maybe the system is getting glitchy since so many people are repeatedly checking their status.  I may well be part of the problem but in the words of the bank robber from Dirty Harry, "I gots to know!"  :chuckle:

Saw over on another board ODFW replied on FB that it’ll be Sat. I think they want to stick with the date as much as possible. Sure, fine.

But isn’t there some kind of interstate rivalry or pride when it comes to this stuff? We have states with much less lag time and providing draw stats. I’d be embarrassed a little.

When we first started the computer draw system, I seem to remember being told that eventually, (when the kinks were worked out) there would only be a ten day period between the application deadline and the results being posted.  It has only been less than a month once or twice to my recollection, and then only by a couple days.  As far as Facebook goes or any other media, they always stick to saying it'll be on the 20th, right up until it actually happens.

Our group of 6 beat the odds (figured our chances were 25%) for an any bull tag in NE Oregon.  If we hadn't drawn, we would have done an otc spike only hunt in another unit. I live in Washington now, but am an Oregon native and the remainder of the group are Oregon residents. It was nice of them to include me in the party app because having a nonresident in the group can hurt the chance of getting drawn. I was looking forward to being part of the group again regardless, but it will be nice to have a chance at a branch bull.

0 for seven.  Haven't drawn a first choice, or even bought a tag in eight years, I'll keep my money until I get a hunt worth doing.  53rd year of no bighorn, didn't even draw the buck tag that the tag guide said I had a 100% chance at.  So frustrating.

53 years is some persistence, if that was a preference point draw like all the others you would be sure to have drawn by now.  Honestly, for a non-resident, it is by far the worst state out there and probably for a resident also.

My son, son-in-law and father-in-law has Owyhee buck tags last year. We hunted from Jordan Valley North along the Idaho border. It was tough. Only saw one decent buck.

One person said we should have tried it from the Water, but we didn’t have a good boat to use.
