Deer/Elk/Bear Meat Chili
« on: January 05, 2009, 04:29:40 PM »
Tonights Dinner is as follows:

2 lbs ground meat (elk, deer, etc...tonight its deer)
1/2 1 large onion chopped (about a half cup)
3-4 spoons of minced garlic (or 3-4 cloves, minced)
1 can (14 1/2 ounce) diced tomatoes
1 cut up fresh tomatoe
1 can black beans
2 cans (16 ounces) baked beans, undrained ( I am using Bushes Baked)
3 tablespoons salsa
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (or onion salt)
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3/4 cup hot water

Brown ground meat, in a skillet. Drain fat if needed. Combine all ingredients in crock pot.  Cover and simmer on high for two hours. The longer it simmers...the better she tastes.

Serves 6-8

So you use actual baked beans like maple , or just plain.

The Bushes baked beans I am using is the "brown sugar and bacon" kind...

But I would expect, any old style would work...thats what I love bout chilli...its not an exact science.

I had a brain fart when I was typing , those were the ones I was actually thinking of. I buy a bag of tater chips and a can of the brown sugar beans and dip away! Those are good beans!! Cant wait to try your recipe!

Last night was only the second time I have made it...and the first I used the chili powder...I like it with the powder for sure...but without using the chili powder, it has a sweet taste too it...I might like that better... ;)

Either way though, you wont go wrong. :P
