palouse tag
« on: June 29, 2012, 12:11:52 PM »
My 11 year old brother drew the palouse late buck hunt. 127-142. We are still trying to get him his first deer. We went over to 127 a week ago and got permission from a farmer to hunt a 100 acre piece of his land, and scouted a couple public land places. Then knocked on a couple other doors with no luck. Either way it was a good trip over to the east side and we fished the Yakima river on the way home. Now i know there is alot of threads about this hunt and people ask where to hunt all the time. I also know that 90% of the palouse is private land. What id like to Know is if anyone knows any farmers in gmus 127-142 that let people hunt on their land in return of some money? We would be willing to pay up to 500 dollars for a good shot at getting him his first buck. We would also be willing to work for a farmer doing chores or whatever. We live on a 100 acre beef farm so we have experience. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Your on the right track. You already have permission on one piece. What type of terrain is that farm? I would try and caution you from offering money to hunt because it could make the farmer charge for access in the future. Then it becomes very hard to get permission. Farmers really like fish and work. I have found many that will allow youngsters access. Just follow rules and treat them well. Get out and.scouting that farm you already got.permission on!
Good luck and keep us posted. My gf drew the same tag (after 4 years trying) and I am hoping to get her on a decent Buck.

It sounds like you are off to a good start. I would keep trying doors. You are starting nice and early, you're not asking to hunt during general season, and it's for a kid. I wouldn't rush to offer money. The offer to do some work is a good one. If you live on a beef farm that suggests you have beef? Farmers like beef...

roosevelt has some good whiteys, but there are much better that are easier to get access. there is a good chunk of state land in 133 that holds good numbers of whitys.
