A first....opening day kill.
« on: September 03, 2012, 04:59:05 PM »
First deer I have killed in Washington.
First buck killed off the private land I have permission to hunt.
First buck bigger than a spike I have killed with a bow.
Been 4 years since I have killed with a bow.
This guy came in with an 8pt (4x4 for your westerners) where 2 does and 3 fawns were feeding.  He proceeded to chase the fawns, horning and hooking them, picking one off the ground and throwing it 4 feet or so.  They took off after that.  Never seen a buck do this.  After the fawns and does were gone, he turned on his 8pt friend and jammed him in the side of the chest with his antlers and that deer took off.  Then he turned to feed.  Was 8 steps from the base of my tree where I was 30 feet high.  Tough shot, but made it work.  Good opening morning, but bitter sweet.  I am not used to this whole one and done thing.  I dont even get the chance to hunt my other 3 stand locations that I worked hard on all year.  But it's worth it to get this one under my belt.

Awesome! Sounds like you had to kill him just to cap off the story...or maybe self defense, you might have been next on his hit list!

If he could have climbed a tree, I would have feared for my life.  It was unreal seeing what he was doing to these other deer.

That is a very solid buck. Looks like he has been hard horned for a while too!

Congrats, it sounds like that deer was a little pissy. Must have been constipated. The fawns were probably nearby cheering you on.  :chuckle:
