montana elk hunt
« on: October 29, 2012, 10:59:16 AM »
my partner and I want to go to Montana and elk hunt in the next couple years.  it is just the two of us and are not into big parties.  what is the best route...self guided or guided?  any ideas on a guide?  area?  we are modern or muzzy hunters and would like to have a hunt of a lifetime with a couple of nice animals to show.  is that to much to ask or is my bucket hunt out of reach?  looking for some good information and thanks for all your help.

There are no special seasons or permits for muzzy hunters..... You're just lumped in with all the rifle hunters. I always enjoyed hunting the "Bob" (Bob Marshall wilderness area) Great Elk country, amazing scenery, and a good chance of connecting on a decent bull.  :twocents:

I have hunted Montana 4 times on diy hunts I harvested one bull but had opportunities every year. We hunted 2 weeks each time and are 100% on deer.

With all hunts, it depends on what you are looking for. Guided hunts are always a good route if you have the money and want someone else telling you where to go. For guides, you can look at Bearpaw Outfitters, a sponsor on this site, and look from there.

I have family/friends that are DIY hunters and say the hunting is great and have good success. They are 100% on deer and probably 50% on elk.
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming
