Kayak For hunting
« on: November 03, 2012, 04:41:57 PM »
I just picked up an Old Town 12xt, I blinded it out last night and shot a limit today. :IBCOOL: I do not have a working camera right now, but I will get some pics up as soon as I get a chance.

It opens a world of opportunities, is super stable (I was worried about that), and is super quiet I almost slunk into range of a yote on my way out.

I take it this is a sit in kayak or a really big one? I have a small one and while it is stable enough to paddle around and shoot from, for the life of me I cant seem to get in or out of it in waist deep water without tipping too far  :chuckle: Thank god for quick reflexes thus far.

How did you put a blind on it? How are you transporting the yak?

Sportsmans had a sale today in burlington 50% off I picked up 2 old towns for $465 they have built in fishing rod holders and are a tan color. I even have a spary skit that will fit...

I carry it on top of my jeep, I made a layout style blind out of burlap and bungee. I still need to set up doors, but I had duck 20 feet away multiple times today. I drag it ashore, and lay in it, layout style. It is a twelve footer.

I have the old town vapor 10 angler which is the size smaller than yours. I love it. It still has quite a bit of room, although sometimes I do wish it was a little bigger. It still fits me, my dog, my gun, some other random stuff, and about 50 decoys, and 4 our goose (I trail a homemade decoy sled  8) )

I've given a sled a ton of thought. We haul out a dozen or two decoys and buckets and burlap and whatever else. Makes it a pain to paddle and a lilting kayak is no fun in 8' water with a crosswind  :chuckle: I've thought about modifying my burlap with some cuts so after I get to where I'm going I can drape it over me and the kayak but we usually pull it ashore onto muskeg and cover it with the burlap. I also wish they made waterproof burlap. Sucks when that 4 lb sheet gets wet and weighs 20 lbs.

Hey, I'm in Coupeville.  We should get together sometime this next week.  I picked up a Marsh Rat w/blind today so I think it'd be a good time.  Hit me with a PM if it sounds good to you.
