Poaching rumor - Bethel Ridge?
« on: November 05, 2012, 09:15:49 AM »
I hear there were 8 bulls shot and left to rot on top of Bethel ridge with branched and spikes.  :bash: :bash: Can anyone confirm this. Anyone know the story?

I was up there for a few days and didn't see any elk up top or on the side of bethel ridge road.  though i usually don't pay attention when i'm driving to an area so there could've been some near the road but at least where I went there was no elk and had to relocated further west to find any.

I heard there was a bull with horns cut off found next to Tieton pond last week.  Nothing else gone, just the horns.  Maybe shot what looked like a spike and it wasn't.  I was on Bethel all last week and didn't see any sign of poached Elk.
Talked to the Warden Wednesday last week half way up and he hadn't had any poaching calls that he was sharing.  Never know thou. :dunno:

I was there on opening Sat. by the Micro wave, someone shot a bunch down by Tieton pond, think he was trying to get the range on one :bash: We were in the fog. Did see a camp on the 1500 working on one, heard they had 2,we came down around 1:00. Our camp got a spike on Sunday and a cow Thursday but I wasn't there. They ate one cow tag.

I have a bit of an update. It sound like they might have caught them but not sure. Might be the Yaks, they took the heads and left the bodies and hunters were asking if the could take the meat and the Gamie said they had to leave it. Someone also shot a big horn..

As far as success on the 1500rd, this was our camp - http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,108658.0.html

I know someone who had a bighorn tag who filled it there last week. All legal and done right. I think that's the one you may be referring to.

That sucks if they were poached and I haven't heard of any Yakamas up there besides myself and another.  Most I talk to don't like having to hike some of them hills to get to the elk.  I was up on the 1500 side at the opener of muzzie and was chasing and calling 3 bulls but didn't have them within shooting range in some of those thick timber areas they like to hide in.  That picture you posted with the tape and pavement really looked familiar but I wasn't going to bother with asking but good to know somebody on here was in there getting on them.

will keep an ear out for the info. you provided.

I was hunting the Manastash this season but I was keeping up with a buddy who was hunting Bethel.  He told me that somebody shot a 5x5 bull and left it to die.  They called WDFW and asked if they could put it down.  WDFW said no, they would come out and take care of it.  2 days later, the bull was still there alive but not able to walk.  They called WDFW again because they hadn't dealt with it yet.  WDFW gave them permission to put it down, but they were told to leave it as it lies, don't take anything from it.  I was not there, but I can attest that this is a stand up guy, and would do the right thing.  He wouldn't take anything.

Did they see who shot it originally?

That makes me sick to my stomache.
I hope they can find out what happened and act accordingly
