Finally Finished AK-47
« on: February 21, 2013, 04:12:39 PM »
I finally finished modernizing my MAC 90 (AK-47). It's a 25 year old gun and made under license by Kalashnikov. Not as accurate as the AR-15 but so durable and accurate enough to meet the "brown-shirt thugs" should HB 5737 passes.
*Collapsible stock
*aluminum front rail
*rubber rear grip
*front post
*new gas piston
*trigger rebuild
*rear picatinny twin fastened scope mount
*3x9x40 scope
It was a fun project. Now to the range to sight it in. I just hope I can find ammo for it.

There is a ton of ammo for AK still available and for reasonable prices as well.  Kinda wish I would have never sold my AK... :bash:

Look nice, but looks like you have to remove rail/scope every time you want to clean the rifle.

Looks like a NCStar a lug mounted bipod is better then being attached to the barrel.

The bipod is by UTG, SWAT Combat profile, adjustable height (slightly adjustable). From Amazon for $20. Amazon shipping is amazing. I paid for the cheapest shipping possible and it was here in 3 days. Since this picture of my AK (it's actually a MAC 90) I added an oversize charging handle. It's a large knurled steel knob that fits over the original bolt handle and screws in via a set screw. I'm going to fill it in using a little black dyed epoxy so you can't see the setscrew. I also fitted a hard rubber (I think its rubber) bolt buffer. It takes some of the shock out of the bolt when it snaps back after a shot. I ordered a flash suppressor, which should be here in a few days. It screws on to the muzzle, Left Hand thread. It is very fine threaded.

Now I'm working on an old Rossi single shot 12 GA shotgun. It's a piece of junk but I'm going to put a new Boyd's laminated butt stock and for-stock on it. I'm thinking of finding someone to thread the barrel to accept choke tubes. Probably cost more than the gun is worth but would be nice for the range. Or I'll give it to my Grandson.

ARNBO. I think you are right, it would be better if it was not attached to the barrel. But, I don't have room for the front post grip and the bipod so I'll have to figure something else out. Any ideas?

Yes, I have seen this bi-pod post grip combination recently. I could try it out and see how I like it. Thanks for the suggestion.

More updates. Took the bipod off the barrel. Oversized charging handle, muzzle break, dual hook trigger job and new retaining plate, etc. I had to buy a 14x1 die to thread the muzzle. The Chinese didn't put threads on their muzzles as with other AK variants. There were tool marks, very fine grooves. Once I threaded the muzzle the muzzle break screwed right in, LH threads.
