Confused
« on: March 29, 2013, 09:06:55 PM »
ok, so I'm feeling lost.  I just got a new bow, online (it was a heck of lot cheaper).  I know I'm probably doing something wrong but I don't really want to go into the local shops and ask since I didn't buy the bow from them (although, I have bought a couple guns in town, so maybe that helps  :dunno:).

Anyways,  I'm not sure if my posture is right.  I'm wondering if my peep sight is to low.  My peep sight has also started to turn after shooting it 200-300 times.  Is this normal?  I've noticed it has started to cant to the side.  So I twisted the string a bit to bring it back to center when it is at full draw.  However, after about 6 shots it's back to being canted.

I'm really feeling at a loss.  Anybody in the Wenatchee area willing to give someone a quick lesson?

Unfortunately, I'm 3 hours from the nearest Cabela's or Sportsman Warehouse.  That probably also won't help with my technique, or the lack thereof.

Where are you?  And don't go to Cabelas or Sportsmans unless you want your problem worse

take it to hooked on and ask Aaron to look it over with you, hes a real cool guy and has forgotten more about bows than most people learn in a lifetime. i bought a bow online a few years ago cause they didnt have what i wanted in stock took it down to Aaron to get set up and the whole nine. yeah it will feel a bit weird but they wont care you might get an odd look but thats about it.

as far as the peep canting try shortening up your peep tubing if you have tubing.

but honestly take it down to hooked on and have Aaron look at it with you, worse case is you will get some good natured jesting and a properly set up bow. and do it now cause once july and especially august hit Aaron gets wicked slammed with people dropping off bows for almost last minute tuning and replacement parts and usually operates on a three week wait to get your stuff back.

IMO, the peep being turned to could be due to the string stretching and string twist. For peep alignment you should draw and anchor with your eyes closed and open your eye at full draw and see through your peep without having to move anchor. As a side note, to help with constancy you should align your peep ring with the ring around your site.

They always try to help the thing is most of them do not know what they are doing compared to a dedicated bow shop.   There are some that are good but for every good one there are 2-3 that don't have a clue..

Sometimes the value of your local proshop is far more than the dollar you save online.  Good news for you is that these pro shops sell first rate service as well as bows and accessories.  I'm sure they will be more than happy to help you get set up properly whether you bought from them or not.  Just don't expect to get it for free as proshops often will if you bought the bow from them.  Employee wages and tech equipment isn't too dang cheap these days.  But that's really what it takes to get peep rotation and individual setup addressed correctly on a modern bow.

You should never feel uncomfortable asking a good pro for some help.  With the horrible margins archery dealers make these days every service dollar helps greatly.  And it will surely leave you with a feeling of comfort knowing your considereable investment is fitted, matched and tuned properly for you.  It's usually one heck of a bargain price too.  They should appreciate your business regardless.  If not...get the heck out of there and find a shop that does.

Good luck!  Hope you get it just perfect and have a great season
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

True. There is one person at cabelas who sure as heck dont know what hes talking about 90% of the time and hes pretty convincing. Simple google searches after talking to him or a phone call to mlbowhunting will usually put an end to that lol. Gotta love my hw fam.

I have returned to work as the archery lead at the Federal Way Sportsman's Warehouse.  I know that the box stores don't have a very good reputation in archery, but if you check me out I think you'll find I am the exception.  Search Larry at Sportsman's , or Larry at Wholesale Sports.  Or Old Dog at either one.

Understandable, Radsav, I'm definately more then willing to pay someone to help set up my bow.

Maybe I'll pop in on Aaron at Hooked on Toys like one poster suggested.  Does anyone know what the best hours to drop in are?  Every time I've been in hooked on toys the place is a madhouse and there is a long line of people pushing to the front for help.  Just wondering if I catch them first thing in the morning it will be easier.

yeah first thing in the am is your best bet.  Aaron is one of the higher ups there and can keep some weird hours some times especially during the mid summer rush to get bows tuned before the season starts. what i usually do is drop by without  my bow (although ill bring my bow and just leave it in my rig just in case he can take right then and there) and talk with Aaron about what he has going on as far as work load and what i need done to my bow and try to find a mutually beneficial time to swing by and drop the bow off. that way he knows im coming what i need done and when ill be there to drop it off. his rates and prices are very reasonable and hes really good at estimating when you can expect it to be done. ive never been disappointed with his work, hes the only bow tech ill take my bow to in the valley

Do they have some kind of range in the back?  How do they get everything tuned up for me If he doesn't watch me shoot it?
