Bear/Deer Hunting Partner near Lake Cushman
« on: May 16, 2013, 12:57:20 PM »
Looking for someone who wants to go on scouting/hunting trips out in the Lake Cushman area. I own a few acres in GMU 621 that make for a great basecamp. They border state land and make for an easy hike or canoe to what I think would be some relatively unpressured hunting. This will be my first year ever hunting and would appreciate the opportunity to learn anything and everything I can.

Send me a PM if interested

Thanks

That would be fun. Someone's going to take you up on this. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

I have hunted that area for many years and know that area like the back of my hand. If you want I can Pm u some ares to look and check out that have always produced for us in the cushman area. I quit hunting that area last year because we purchased a large chunk of land that I will now be doing all of my deer and bear hunting on. I'm more than willing to give up my cushman honey holes now.

Not a problem. Glad to help!! There where some guys on here last year that turned a real bad hunting experience into a goodtime for my son and his buddy so I'm more than willing to pay it forward.

Did you ever put together a scouting trip this summer? That would be a great area to explore, it's been awhile since you posted this but I would sure be interested in a recon/hunt out there, bear season starts this week!

I'm up for some scouting trips in that area. I'm looking for a place to hunt from mid Sept to the end of Bear season. I hear Copper Creak is full of bears.

All this talk got me looking at the map of that area again. I wonder if the small Wonder Mountain Wilderness section is open for the high buck season. I had been going to the Mt. Rose area for that season, it's closest to me but I know there are better areas. I've always felt it was a good idea to hunt close to the park.  Maybe there is a possible meet/greet and hunt in all this?

I'm game.  I own house on the Lake in the Mt. Rose division.

Drive down hwy 119 after 9 pm and you're sure to run over at least 10 deer.

I hiked up Rose to try and access the wilderness west of Mt. Elinor....but even my shorthair turned back!

You are too right, it gets steep around there. I used to climb in that area a lot when I was younger. We are heading to Dayton Sunday for a little snooping around but I would sure like to hunt Mt. Rose area for the high buck season this year. I think it would be worth going in before that and getting a fresh look at the area, at least for me.

I'll be at the lake tonight.  Scored some free time tomorrow so I may venture out at o'dark thirty for bears.  A quick n dirty morning hunt.

I took the Mt. Rose trail to the top in hopes of crossing the saddle which takes you to a ridge leading downhill, west of Mt. Elinor.  But it was so blown over.

I mean, 1800' and you're in high buck wilderness, but I wonder if you'd find any on the side of Rose, off trail.

The country there is open enough, but oh man so many hikers.  Plus it's quite vertical.

Thanks for the update on that area. All the hikers is always a concern. I used to be one of those hikers, always wore some orange in the fall. I need a FS parking pass to park at the trailhead don't I?
