BIRDSHOT?
« on: May 22, 2013, 08:48:04 PM »
am looking for birdshot shells in 9, 40 and 357(38).  will be going to snake country and would rather use birdshot than regular pistol ammo.  where do i acquire birdshot ammo and what size lead pellets are put in the shells.  can you reload them?  mike w

#9 shot.  Ask any gun counter, that is one of the few things that you can still find on any ammo shelf.

I would say that typically the store bought ones are not typically reloadable. I believe they are aluminum case.  You probably could for the .357/.38, but the auto cartridges might be more tricky.  Speer makes shot capsules for the .38, and you can load any size bird shot you want - some like 11.

And of course there are many recipes floating out there for DIY shotshells without the Speer capsules.

Why?  Just looking to piss the snakes off?

you can buy the plastic shot capsules for reloading shot cartridges.. if you get a few shotshells.. test them on a coke can or two before you try them on a snake, at least you'll have an idea what to expect for pattern, etc.. the .44 spec. and .45 auto shotshells are decent, havent played with the others yet.. close range only..
