Good luck to ya. Alot of people would give a lot to have that tag. Take a little more pride and confidense with you. You walk outside with your head down and you won't ever see the sun. Do your scouting. Get topo maps. Know where the streams are located. I've seen some pics of incredible deer taken out of there. Mule deer hunting is ALOT different then your whitetails.

Thanks big-buck, I plan on doing my due dilligence. Plus, I have the ok from my wife to spend like a little kid on this hunt if I need to. haha

I would definitly hunt this tag like it was a once in a lifetime tag, you never know which year that once in a lifetime buck comes through. it may be ten years plus before you have a opprotunity to hunt mule deer in the rut! you can hunt whitetail year after year. :twocents:

I'm thinkin' huntin' up and down those canyons might be easier on horses. Are there a lot of horses being used in this unit?

burn boot leather and use a spotter . Horses aren't gonna help you there . you can drive pretty close to where you need to be then just hump a bit  :twocents:

spend more time behind spot scope before you burn boot leather when not needed...

I don't plan on spending until I have a game plan. It's soo early I haven't even made it over there yet. Probably one of these weekends in july.

Just go with the flow, listen to folks advice, and most of all have fun. Its easy to get yourself in a "preasure cooker" with a good tag! You should have a fun hunt, good luck.

I'd get over there soon if you are planning on scouting, with this weather it wouldn't surprise me if they started locking gates to avoid a repeat of last years fires.

A majority of last years fires were the result of dry lightning

.....but not all, and regardless the cause, the possibility of being locked out for a undetermined amount of time is tangible. :twocents:
