Huge fish. My bud caught one about 10 days ago similar size out of that river.

Appears as though someone needs to read the regs once in a while. As I read them, at least 1 wild chinook may be retained in most areas of the Columbia at one time or another. :dunno:

It appears someone needs to read someones post now and then! Why do you think I said
Quote
I'm not entirely sure if there are stretches open for the leagal taking of Wild Chinook but even if there were I wouldn't that's why I said even if it is leagal I'm mot one to take a wild fish!

If it is leagal then cool ... but I don't retain wild fish by choice but have no problem with those who do leagally ... so what's the beef?

You know I'm starting to get fed up with this site it's turning into a monster muley type thing where everyone has to question and read right through what people are saying and it's getting real old real fast! Read what I said I didn't accuse him of taking a wild fish I questioned weather it was leagal where he fished and threw in there that I don't retain them  :dunno: I don't get it????

Well, then don't make such  statements such as " Not sure you understand?   Wild Chinook on the Columbia are listed as a threatend species and are illegal to retain! And that's as wild as they get cause the adipose fin isn't clipped." and then add a disclaimer in the fine print  saying then that you are not really sure if it's legal  or not. It would have been a lot more polite to just say "nice fish, but I don't believe in keeping wild fish" It's really not that hard to understand.

WTF are you takling about? go back and read it dude I'm not the one who made the statement "I don't understand" jdb did! And that's why I responded and elaborated on my original thought it's not a disclaimer it was a response to his question?  I wasn't sure if there are stretches that are open and I said several times and I quote" I don't have a problem with people keeping them when it is leagal to do so!" The truth of the matter is that there are areas where it is illeagal to retain a wild chinook and it's a free world if the guy wants to post a wild fish I have every right to say what I did which is "cool I'm not a fan of taking that gene pool out of the system"  It seems you are the one who doesn't understand ... whatever????  :dunno: I guess I was the only one who saw it that way too considering beancounter posted  :yike: and huntnphool posted  Dude get your facts straight before you attack someone or go back to MM there are plenty of folks over there that will understand you.

The term "wild" gets thrown around very loosely. There are a lot of federal, state, and tribal hatcheries that release Chinook smolt every year that do not have the funding for clipping 100% of released fish.
Also, the listed species of chinook salmon is the Upper Columbia River Spring Chinook. This fish is a Fall Chinook and most likely to head to Ringold where there are a lot of fish released every year for harvest.

By the way, very nice fish, "wild" or not.

Wich is exactly why I said "I wasn't sure if it was open" to jdb ... I didn't want to accuse or attack anyone and I also wanted to get my point accross to people that I personally choose to release wild or unclipped fish even when it is leagal to do so! It's all cool with me it's a great fish and one to be proud of!

A little dark for my tastes.

Just let em spawn so I can catch em in the salt up here in Alaska.   :chuckle:

There is no regulations keeping me from eating Columbia river Kings.......

I'll be lookin for your treble hook in its back Chris  :chuckle:  Okanagon or Wenatchee....Vantage caught fish?  If its anything like the icicle springers it should be good table fair (some of the best).  The upriver brights are a special fish and still have decent meat.
Vegetarians?..Vegetarians are cool.  All I eat are vegetarians....except for the occasional mtn. lion steak.

I would agree Woody but when that is how the state designates the difference between the two, hatchery or not, non fin clipped fish must be released. I haven't read the regs either but would have taken a pic and released it myself.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Fall Chinook in the CR system do not have to be clipped.  There were probably 15000 taken by sports and even more by the netters this year.

did he keep it? looks to me the flasher is still hangin next to the fish. so maybe he has yet to unhook the fish and just took it out for a quick pic then released it...although taking wild fish out of the water (when not legal to keep, or intending to release is also illegal)

nice fish though
