A guy I work with hunts western side modern firearm and swears up and down that I would have a way better chance over there than in peaches ridge.  I am just hunting cows and spikes.  No tag this year :bash:.  So what do you guys say?

I would say for guaranteed meat in the freezer any one of the cold meat units at the back of most grocery stores will do the trick...
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

me personally, I would hunt the same unit I  always hunt.  if you start jumping unit to unit, you will probably just waste time.
I've known guys who always coax their buddies to other units.  most are unsuccessful, cause they dont know the unit.

:yeah: doesn't matter how many elk are in the unit. What matters is knowing where to find them  :twocents:

 :yeah:

Building on that, I have had the privilege of hunting 2 peaches tags (one mine, one with dad; both archery). I live in Spokane and didn't get over to scout much and I got a 6X6 with my tag and Tagged a cow while trying to call in a herd bull for dad.  Long story short: peaches sure seems to have some good elk areas, If you are willing to work hard for it!  Lots of hunters though....
Push the envelope of your abilities, but respect the life of the quarry

Ya it kinda reminds me of when I am out fishing.   The minute you start thinking another area might be good to try, you wait about 10 minutes and the bites on.   The grass isn't usually greener

It's hard for me to say this, Buckmark is right.  The grocery stores are usually the more cost effective and sure way to guarantee meat in the freezer.  Hunting is just that, hunting.  No guarantees.

pick a unit and learn it inside out. one hint i will give is the units with the most elk killed have the most hunters. unpressured elk are way easier to hunt than pressured elk. if you know theres elk in an area with a low percentage success rate go find them and figure them out. it might take a few years but once you do youll start killing elk regularly. :twocents:

A wise old man once told me "never leave elk to find elk". It turned out to be good advice. I'd keep hunting the unit I know.

I don't know how to answer, I left a fairly successful unit for another unit that provided me with even more success.  Technique, luck, and persistence contributed to my success.   I want to stress "luck".  3 elk in three years, and I am going blind into a new unit this year.  Lady Luck please join me!
