Tuna Charters - Westport?
« on: August 05, 2013, 08:44:53 AM »
I know and have read the many threads alrady out there on tuna fishing.  However I wanted an updated review.

Can people tell me who the best charters are out there and why.  Also do you prefer the 2 day trips vs the one day?  Pros/cons?

Thanks for the help.  My dad is flying in in late August and I was hoping to put him on a good fishing trip.

They killed the Tuna on Saturday!! Not sure of boat names but they all did well
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

It doesn't matter what you think...

The Whiners suck!!

2 day or 1 depends on how far out the fish are.  They will not offer 1 day trips unless the fish are close.

Mark Coleman. He is a smaller, six pack charter that knows how to fish and have fun, not just kill fish. You won't be with 17 other pukers, fill the boat with your own friends and have a good time on live bait getting bloody!

There is no reason to do more than a one day trip, the charters only do over night or "2 day" trips because they go so slow.

You will fill the boat in half a day or less (more like a couple hours the way fishing has been) so there is no need to do a longer trip.

We prefished for the Washington tuna classic on Friday, had 31 fish by 11:15 and called it a day so we had time to process fish clean the boat and make it to the captains meeting. Saturday we had 46 by 1:30 and called it a day to make early weigh in, not to mention we were out of room. The weather and fishing has been amazing.

I should add this was on my own boat not with Mark.

One bait stop, it's a bloody mess!

Copy that.  I may try and find a slot on one of his trips the week I'm down there.  Looks like a great price for a tuna trip!

Givin the choice I would do a two day trip, simply because I have never did an overnighter. Would love to have em light up the water and do some bait at night, you never know what comes up from the deep at night. Could be a chance to get some exotics, I hear sword fish may come up shallow enough for sport gear at night, but the truth is you never know whats out there untill you try.

If you like to catch sharks buy some ballons and any wire will work for leader and put on a piece of tuna and let it out to the edge of the boat lights put the hook about 6 to 8 feet under the ballon we do it a lot and the kids catch them all night. You can catch humbolt squid at night a lot of the time but you need to pick up a large lighted squid jig englund marine has them.

Myself and Robodad are running with Mark on the 30th of Aug..  I cannot wait, super excited for sure.  Haven't done the Tuna thing and know my boat can make the journey, but wanted to fish it and learn the ways before jumping into the venture out.    I will be a member of the Tuna club next year for sure...

If you get the itch before that you can always tag along with us and buddy boat. We saw probably a 20ft open boat out there Friday... A little extreme for me. The tuna were right at 40 miles this weekend. That was from the harbor.

You are screwed my friend. Your trip with Mark will change your life. Got to experience my first livebait stop with the help of sirmissalot and some others that lasted for over an hour with massive tuna death being the end result. Salmon fishing seems silly now. Watch every move Mark makes and put it to use!
