So is this like a skidder for elk hunting? That would work pretty slick i guess if you are hunting areas with road access. Never seen anything like that before.

I've heard great things about that stuff.  But I'm confused?  How do you plan to move the elk?  With the hand crank on the role?  Is there gear reductions in there?  Were you planning to use your truck and drag it out?  If so how were you going to lock the role in place?  I really like your set up, but I gotta know more about it.

The carrier is only for line storage. You reel off enough line to the elk, then use some slack to tie to the truck, IE: see tie off point below...

If you look close at the bottom of the reel I have a solid piece of round stock that goes through the reel and through the vertical square tubing that locks the reel in place. My plan is to use the shackle to tie off the tape to and use the truck to drag it out.

I bought the roll of mule tape through the local platt electrical store. They did not have it in stock so they ordered it and it was at the store  the next day.

This is what the hose reel looked like. A friend of the family was going to through it out cause the frame was busted. I took it off and welded plates to the inside of the reel to reinforce it.

Mule tape works well. Add chain saw to clear the trail of course.

Hitched of another truck

Here he comes. About 300 feet down a nasty canyon!

Run that through a small little $15 dollar block, and it will even pull better.

I would definitely recommend using a block, mule tape has a weekness to abrasion. Plus it pulls way better with a few blocks

The stuff I got was rated for 2500 pounds so since I am not pulling a semi out of a canyon, this was all I asked for. I do not know if they had any bull tape. They did have other stuff but i figured this would work and went with it.  Platt Electrical was where I got it. They have a website to look at what they have. As far as  pulley's  I bought some from REI. They are the snatch block style. I am ready and hopefully by getting all this the elk will die by the road and I can load it whole.
