Bear sighting no trigger pulled
« on: October 08, 2013, 07:40:33 PM »
I was out hunting a week ago, saw my first bear, been out 3 times, I was setup in spot that could see best in the clear cut, bear came out of nowhere , I grabbed my gun and put scope right on it, it was a tough shot about 200 yards down hill and bear was walking right towards me, I moved to my left about 20 feet to get better shot and then it walked into brush, I tried to stay above it and walk through brush but I think it herd me and took off, question I have is should i have waited and used a predator call to try to bring him back?

I prob could have pulled trigger on it walking at me but figured wouldn't have killed it and it was getting late, didn't want to leave it out there wounded.

I don't think it would hurt to start calling... If you think he's already busted, calling isn't going to hurt. If he didn't spook, maybe calling would bring him in. As for taking a marginal shot, better to hold up, and live another day...    :twocents:

Go back to the area and wait.  I've been in that situation before to shoot or get closer... Also remember bears can be easy to miss because they usually are moving.  I had a large boar a week and half ago that winded me good on the stalk, 4 hrs later he came back to the same huckleberry patch.  if there is food there he wil be back
