Quilcene deer?!?!

I have spent the last 2 weeks scouting around Quilcene. Lords lake loop road, Penny Creek Rd, and a LOT of FS roads. I have hiked up to the top of Mt Townsend twice (each from a different route) to the top of Mt Zion, and a lot of hiking in between. I figure I have put 200 miles on the car, and 25-30 on the feet, and have yet to see much. In fact, the most I can say I have seen besides a few tracks is 1 coyote. I was just wondering if anybody else has been scouting around this area, (or any close to these) and has had any better luck.

i hear the gates along the highway just west of hood canal bridge are pretty good for deer and stuff. never been in there though. Tarboo is supposed to be good too.

The big ones are in downtown Port Townsend.

Coyle unit has a ton of deer in it, as well as bear.

There are A few deer up high but most are low. If you stick with it and hit the clear cuts on Penny Crk and the Lords Lk loop Rd you will find deer. Also the cat population is going crazy over there now so check your six when your moving through the brush.

Coyle is a good bet to as was mentioned earlier. Dont get discouraged if you dont see much opening weekend. Give it a week or two and the deer seem to come out of nowwhere.

Also watch the snow level over there. There is a small BT migration from the high mountains when the snow level hits the 2000 ft level.

There are tons of deer around there. Just find some clear cuts that are in the process of growing back. I know there are quite a few recent (last few years) clear cuts up by Discovery Bay. You many want to put a trail camera up just to confirm that there are deer, especially any bucks in the area your looking. I am sure most are nocturnal right now. I see the doe's and fawns out all the time, in the yard, especially when the apples start falling. The bucks tend to be out in the early morning or evening, and during mid-day when the weather is really cruddy and wet. Good luck!
