Moose while deer hunting
« on: October 14, 2013, 07:31:55 PM »
Saw a cow moose Friday evening up the street from Pearrygin state park (in a field across from the rifle range) Friday night before the deer opener. Any one else seen moose in the Methow?

Had a spike bull come into camp at Silverline Resort on perrygin lake in the muzzy deer hunt this year. They are moving west! Pretty soon we will be hunting them here on the westside!

Well not in the Methow but I had a pretty intense encounter the other night with a stud bull in 113. He was walking down the road when I was walking back to my truck. He went up the hillside about 20-30 yds and then started angling back towards me thru the bush. Needless to say he was pissed I was there and started thrashing the brush and grunted maybe 8-10 times. Kept getting closer so I bailed on the low side of the road and waited. He kept getting closer with every grunt I thought he would drop back on the road at any moment. I pulled out my .357 and fired 2 shots into the bank which didn't faze him and he kept coming. My next thought was if he comes down on the road in front of me I'm gonna have to make a decision. So I fired off a round with my rifle and that seemed to startle him enough to make him run up the hill! Seen plenty of moose and jumped plenty but that's my first hairy encounter. Here's a crappy pic of him on the road in front of me!

Good bull.

Yeah I thought so. Best one I've seen in a while. He had great tine lengths off the paddles with double fronts. My guess he was in that 42-45" range. Nice and symetrical!

Ran into a grouse hunter the other day up there that had one walking down the road and he had to back his truck up and honk at it.  Had a bull grunting the other day and he sounded like he was across the canyon from me walking down the main rd. next time tie him to a tree for me.  After all the walking I will gladly shoot one on the road. :bash: :bash:
