Hunters and deer missing
« on: October 26, 2013, 09:16:33 AM »
Has anyone bag a dear in whatcom county 407-418 areas yet? In all my years I never seen so little action here and it looks like all the hunters I used to meet out in the bush have vanished this year.  :o

I've been hunting both those areas since opening day and haven't seen a thing come out. I'm pretty sure all the good deer heard I was commin,,, moved someplace safe!

I've been in the 418 every chance I can get. All I have seen is two bears.... It is getting pretty discouraging. But I'll still be up early and at it again tomorrow.

Funny you should mention that,, I had a little guy rattin me out yesterday for a little while. Makin the same noise they do when my dog's waiting for 'em at the bottom of a tree. I had to use the Jedi mind trick,, he left,, but I think all the deers got the memo that there was an armed ugly dude lookin to make some doe a widow.

On another note,, I was on my way off Sumas mountain yesterday and it looked like costco! There must have been 30 Canadian plated cars parked here and there. One was parked smack in the middle of the road,, no one in it! Dunno if they were just up there enjoying the view or there was some kinda geocaching event,, or whatever. Not a discovery pass in any of the vehicles that I saw,, but they did have some name tag thing hanging around their necks (the few people I saw). Anyone know of any event like that goin on up there?

I think what you are seeing is halloweeners going to do a practice on the woods--near that area i have seen people on horses with capes and masks on making all kinds of noise just before Halloween gets here.... saw women dressed as witches and guys following them around one year, me and my buddy were kind of freaked out about it...no wonder the deer are gone!!
Hey man, we got 3 days left to get a buck --I'm heading out on evenings for the next three days. say hi if you see me I wear a Safari hat folded on the sides with a mini U.S. flag right smack in the center of it.

No idea what they were up to,, didn't look spooky or anything like that. Maybe just enjoying the view,, sure was nice up there,, can't blame 'em. They weren't there Sunday, only a few other hunters. I'll be up the next couple days after work,, up on the paradise valley side,, found a spot I like. I'm the guy in the orange safari hat driven a red jeep, lookin like he has no idea what he's doin. Real happy doin it tho! I'll be sure to say HI,, you do the same! Good luck!

We usually a few tags in our family and only one nephew got a nice 3 X 4 but none our kids or my husband.  The deer are very nocturnal and rut activity is well hidden.  I have a late tag so I won't shoot a blacktail this year.  Hoping someone will fill the freezer!

yeah that must be it--always hear people talk about the rut and how you can bag one so easy then. I never see no bucks during the rut--just bunch of hunters.
