Public land, wet side, where would you go?
« on: November 04, 2013, 07:16:42 AM »
With my new job I'm slamming 60+ hrs a week for the last few weeks, only got one crack at early deer, now I will be able to take one day off this week. I have not got a tag yet, because I have no idea where I should even consider looking for elk or have a snowballs chance in hell of finding one  :dunno: I have been told the peninsula, but thats all private i have been told, then I was told head east, well im screwed because the pass has snow and my F350 is 2wd, ya that isnt gonna work.

so aside from Snoqualmie where on the wet side has public elk land?  :dunno:

I'm thinking about hitting the north river unit or wynoochee unit. I know the wynoochee is a mix of green dot and red dot, the Areas I would hunt there are all red dotted. I asked about north river last night and it seems like a bunch of the same.

If you have a mountain bike the wynoochee could be worth a shot. And probably what I'm going to hunt because I live right here. I just like the idea of being about to drive around the north river unit a bit more than hiking/biking

what is green dot red dot?

Green dot is an open road and red dot is a closed road. Most of the tree farms in this area run off that system.

They don't have maps to tell you what gates are closed that I'm aware of....you can buy weyco maps around town here locally and they show all the roads....weyco usually only has a spot red/yellow dot if the have a current logging operation in that area...unfortunately you just have to drive the area and find out ....maybe if you know what road system you want to hunt you could probably call weyco and ask if its open
