I have a Howa 1500 ranchland compact in 308win with the hogue stock and a leupold 2-7x33 on it and it is very accurate. I love it the only thing compact about it is the 20 inch barrel the length of pull is normal full size.

Few years back Howa was a great choice as a donor action because they were not only good but you could pick used ones up pretty cheap.  Last one I bought was a Howa 1500 in 270Win. I paid $275 and it was like new.  Now that same action sits in a Manners T2, had a Timney trigger installed and is a 6.5-06Ack Imp.  Shoots 140 Bergers lights out!

I think the word got out that Howa made good stuff because they're about double in price of what they used to be and the used stuff goes for as much as a Rem. model 700 so building a good semi custom and saving a few hundred bucks by using a Howa receiver is a thing of the past.

Something to keep in mind before you buy a Howa or any Howa made but renamed rifle/s is they have Metric barrel threads and if you ever want to have one re-barreled not all "Smiths" can cut Metric threads.  Also, they don't have near the aftermarket parts availability that a Rem. model 700 does but short of those two things, they're as good as any factory receiver and better than most.

The actions of the older weatherbys vanguards are also Howa 1500.  Howa makes some great shooters

I've been looking at a Weatherby 240 S2 or a Howa 1500 in 204. Does anyone have a Howa and if so, do you like it, good, bad and ugly ? I want either for wolf hunting. I already have a Weatherby 257 mag, but I want a 6mm.

I want answers about the Howa only please.

I have a howa .204 and it has become my favorite gun. Very accurate well built rifle. Take it over a newer 700. Also has a very adjustable trigger

Bought a howa 1500 with a hogue stock in .270 win couple years back with thoughts of a good loaner or throw around gun.
I did a lot of research first, but did not expect to get such a shooter!
The barrel is fully floated and with good glass and ammo it shoots beyond my capabilities.
The action is a little loose or almost sloppy feeling, but I'm pretty picky.
I find my self grabbing this gun out of  the safe more often than planned. Actually took my last two deer with it.
Very under rated gun. Would recommend it.

27 years ago I bought a used mossberg 1500. The barrel had the stamp Howa on it. It was a 270 win. Mag. With my hand loads I could shoot .5 MOA groups at a hundred yards all day long. Lost that rifle in a house fire. It killed 6 elk 26 deer and 23 bears before it met its demise. Still puts a pit in my stomach. I would buy a Howa in a heart beat.
