Hatchary & Wild--->Suport our Salmon and Steelhead
« on: February 03, 2014, 08:12:49 PM »
I'm sure all of us are guilty of watching hours of TV and fun/silly youtube videos. I know I am! Below is a 30 minuet video about our steelhead. I urge all of you to take time to view this video, even if you don't watch the entire thing, but if your like me, you will want to watch the entirety of the video.

Below the video, is a link to hatchery and wild's web site, at the bottom of the page is a link to sign a petition. A petition to help preserve our fishing for the future. Please take the time to sign it.

Thank you all!!

Awesome video I agree 100 percent with what is said.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

Can I get a summary of what this is about?  These guys trying to have the hatchery fish eliminated to keep the gene pool pure or trying to keep the hatcheries to keep fishing opportunity available?  Or... other?

I agree it was a melting pot of ideas.

If this has to do with eliminating all hatchery fish.  I am NOT for that at all.  I think there are a few rivers left which that can happen.  But the rest of the rivers the wild fish are gone.  Look at the steelhead on Nisqually River never ever coming back.

There is also some half truth talking there as well.  The Idaho Nez Perce tribe is doing a great job on hatchery fish.  I do not think they will be going 100% native any time soon with no help from the hatchery.

You cant keep fishing if hatchery fish arnt available. This shows how we need both. And they are for both.

Here is a blurb from there site.

Sport, Tribal, and Commercial fishermen don’t always agree and are often times at odds with each other, but we agree that hatchery and wild salmon are very important to our way of life. Check out the new video “Hatchery AND Wild” to hear stories that showcase the cultural, ecological, economic, and social importance of Pacific Northwest fish, both hatchery and wild.  You will never view hatcheries the same way again! Get involved and make a difference by signing the petition today.

Exactly what wildmanoutdoors said. This is to KEEP HATCHARYS OPEN!! You may have heard about this recession we are in, and every state is trying to save money and cut corners in one form or another. And because of this, state hatchery's are on the chopping block, along with many of our other hunting and fishing funds.

This organization is for the fish, salmon and mostly steelhead. They want to keep hatchery's open which will hopefully in turn assist the native fish population.

I think the fish managers think narrow minded. There is a large untapped army willing to help and contribute.

Look at what the group did on Sol Duc with support of Fish and Game.  THere was no money contributed by the state.

One week advanced notice there is enough people to cut fins.

There are so many groups who would help but Fish and Game does not leverage them.  One has to ask way?
