Attic Rack Scored Today
« on: February 21, 2014, 06:24:49 PM »
Long story short I found a nice Non Typical Mule Deer rack in an attic, been there several decades, had a reputable Taxidermist mount a cape/head mount, etc. Just had it scored today @ 214 3/8. My question is it has a metal tag on it that's stamped U.S.F.S. Game Permit 13456. Can anyone tell me anything about the metal tag with just this info?
Where does 214 3/8 put it in the WA.St. recored book if anywhere?
Looks like it missed B&C by 5/8?
Thanks, Lon

I can't help with you questions, but great buck and beautiful mount.

WA big game records, if taken with a rifle it is not near the top ten.

Have more of a story for it?

Very cool and a neat bonus with the old metal tag......Maybe check with the game dept or  forest service and they may be able to give some info on the year it was taken, are you sure its a washington buck? I have seen a few of the old metal tags from washington and the ones i,ve seen have some numbers and a WN on them :dunno:.I,m sure they could have changed year to year back then, who knows.  Wherever its from its quite a find, but it would be neat to track down a little history on the old fella.Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the replies!
I did a google search for WA.St. Mule Deer records and found nothing except to buy the book. Is there anywhere on  the net I can check the Wa.St. top 100?

Jakelope, yes I understand the buck missed the B&C by 5/8, I still want to know where it would rank in the WA.St. record book if at all. Anyone have a 2013 Book that could look that up?
Thanks again to all, Lon

That's the top 10 non typicals, Washington state with a rifle in the NW book as of the most recent printing. Without the actual book, that's as good as it gets.

Just curious, if you gave a mount to be scored to lets say 5 diff. scorers how close together would they be?

I'm with you Kentrek. I don't see how they can register the #1 mule deer out of Lewis County. Wouldn't it still be considered a blacktail on this side of the Cascades; a crossover probably but a mule deer?
