Ha ha ha
« on: September 26, 2014, 11:51:40 AM »
In a lifetime around saltwater and salmon boats this was one time I was totally surprised and amazed. A guy was cleaning a silver on the back of his big boat at the marina dock. He held it up to spray it and a seal jumped up, above his transom, and grabbed it out of his hand!  Talk about a mad guy , ha ha. I grabbed my phone and took this picture. It's the seal still holding his fish.  I felt bad for him but it was funny as heck.  He was trying to hook it with his gaff in the pic. No luck.

Somebody is going to lose a hand or worse...

At what point will this type of activity be seen a a threat?
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

A bang stick, with pin removed, falling overboard right about the time that picture was taken would make a sportsman smile :chuckle:
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

The seals teach the pups to do that and they can attack in packs.  There have been tribal boats that have almost capsized when the seals start jumping in and trying to steal fish from the nets.  But they at least get seal tags and can get rid of the problem animals.

I'm surprised the seal missed his fingers on the first grab.  He was so mad I was waiting for him to jump in after it.  Ha ha. I still feel bad laughing but can't help myself.  It was a nice fish, about 8 pounds.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. The seals in the Everett marina are real aggressive.  Somebody will get bit one of these days.

The marinas will be liable unless they start posting no fish cleaning signs.  Skyline Marina in Anacortes seems to allow the charter boats to clean at the dock.  One day I was chatting with the fishermen while their charter captain fileted their salmon when up pops a seal, between me and the guy I was talking to, and lands on the dock.

Without thinking I pulled my foot back and kicked the thing in the head... strangely satisfying!   :o   8)

As soon as a boat moves in Everett they pop up around it. Some other guy said he saw people holding up fish guts while the seals jumped and grabbed them. He called them trained circus seals.  I'm pretty sure it's going to be a problem for the next few weeks.  Of course people taught them to do it so whose fault is it?  I've had boats there for 25 years. This is a new thing this week.

lmao they are some ornery critters, I've never had one let me get close enough to put boots to it but thought I would at the everett marina a couple of times.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Same thing happened to my dad a few years ago rinsing off a fish at the slip. it was already gutted but he was getting it ready for pictures. Seal-1, Dad-0. It was a nice 12lb silver too. He learned his lesson that day.
