Disappointing-ish first weekend in the blues
« on: October 13, 2014, 07:16:17 AM »
Not a single buck seen.
Although, i did see three does running around on the other side of this draw, and some elk, including a very tall spike bull.
I also found a 6 point elk shed with a huge brow tine.
But no bucks  :dunno:
I have to be honest but i'm starting to get jealous seeing a lot of people with bucks in their trunk.

I think I'd rather find the shed. :chuckle:     Keep at it!

Great finds even though you didn't see any bucks.  Keep at it, the first weekend is always crazy, the second weekend will be more calm and you will probably see one.  Good luck.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Saw bucks every day in the foothills, took a drive today through the Lick Creek and Tucannon.. saw lots of deer hanging in the national forest. The last resort had 28 deer in their cooler. Also saw pictures of 2 nice big mulie bucks killed in the tucannon.

I am in my 6th season of nothing, and already getting really dismayed with what I am not seeing.  :bash: I have seen a few deer but not as many as usual and nothing legal, foked horn, spike, a spork (spike by fork) I am hunting central so the colockum essentially, may try and road hunt the other side of the valley if I can wake up early enough try an area I have never been to but have been told of others who fill tags in there.
all else fails I am gong to northwest trek next year :chuckle: :chuckle:

Been a tough year in this corner of the state.  We need some rain.  Badly.  The mountains have gotten some moisture, but west of the Blues is a dust bowl.  Not a single one of the 10 or so bucks I have on my trail cams this summer are still on the land I am hunting.  I shot a thin horned 3x4 because that is all I could find.  Driving up and down the road and talking with the other camps, it looks like no one else did much better.

Where we were in 178, we got pounded by high winds Friday and Saturday nights. My brother killed his first deer, a whitetail, 3x3 with eyegaurds.

It did rain pretty good on opening day.

I saw the mountains got some rain.  Not a drop out where I was hunting.  Walked around in the poof-dust Sat and Sun.  Looks like we're going to get some rain tomorrow though.

It rained hard on the Pomeroy side. 1/2" in the rain gauge in an hour or so.

It was nasty out Saturday. It's been so dry and when the winds picked up, you could barely see 50 yards.
