rust on nickle plated barrel

I don't know how but I have a small patch of rust on my nickel plated Model 93 Savage .22 WMR barrel.  How do I polish or get rid of it?  It was sitting in my safe that is pretty dry. no other problems with any of my other rifles.

One trick that my dad taught me on rust if it is a a small patch, about the size of a plastic pin head is to use a #2 pencil rub the lead in a circle motion around the rust area, when you get a coating of lead on the area use the eraser and rub it clean, repeat till clean then oil.
