Idaho unit 14 bull
« on: October 18, 2014, 11:06:33 PM »
First time hunting out of state and enjoyed the heck out of it managed to bump into this little 5 point bull on kind of a shot in the dark decision to just take of hiking down the canyon straight from camp. Heard the brush start breaking and knew there were elk heading my way I picked up movement of legs about thirty yards in front of me it came into view and it was a great big cow then in tow about five steps behind her I see antler tips and legs moving my way. The wind was perfect and the elk had no idea I was around I did all I could to contain my excitement knowing that I was able to pull the trigger I held back until he presented me with a broadside shot at thirty yards or so and boom he staggered around and crashed down the hill wedging himself Into a downed pine tree sounded like a house falling down when he fell over the tree.  All this only about a half mile down the canyon from camp. I pulled the trigger at 8:00 am and had all four quarters packed out and hanging by noon now it's on to washington elk camp next week.
