While studying the Teton Glacier my professor and I found the remains of a glider that had crashed.  NO human remains, apparently they were retrieved but the debris was everywhere.  Found old logging tools, such as spikes and pieces of iron.  Found a pot grow, and a make shift meth lab.

Favorite finds are: dead heads, sheds, mushrooms (non hallucinogenic), money, hunting equipment, and of course elk and deer core areas.

Found lots of stuff but my favorite is an indian arrow head in perfect shape, in the backcountry of western wa. Still very sharp, tried to look up arrow heads to see which tribe it might be from but couldn't find any info on it.

Arrowhead on the westside is pretty rare.  That's a good find for sure!

I don't recall ever finding anything truly noteworthy while hunting but when I was a new fly fisherman about 15 years ago I was wading a river in the low water flows of Fall and found an odd looking, very straight blue/green tree branch in the river.  I waded out and snatched it and it turned out to be a Sage fly rod with a Ross reel (loaded with a floating line).  It was covered in weedy sludge, probably from several months of being in the water, so I did a good cleaning and that rod/reel is still my primary fly fishing setup.  At the time I had no idea what a treasure I had until I priced the rod/reel on the internet and found the value to be about $850.

My Great Grandfather found a Model 99 .303 Savage with octagon barrel leaning against a tree in the mid 1950s and gave to my dad for his first deer rifle.  It blew up on my dad while shooting at a deer when he was in his teens and in 1989 I had it rebuilt by a Master Gunsmith.  Turned out pretty nice.  I too have found some preety cool memorials of hunters past.

Was that in the Capitol Forest?  My grandmother used to tell a story of times being so bad during and just after the war they resorted to poaching for meat.  Story goes my grandfather had shot a small deer about 100 yards from the road and before he could return to get his gun they saw someone coming up the road.  So they took off and took the deer home.  They spent days trying to find the spot again and never could.  They had to borrow money and even cooked bricks in their kitchen oven to afford the gasoline to go up and look for the gun.  Finally they just had to give up and grandpa's 303 was lost forever.

Nope.  It was in Stevens County, Washington.  Huckleberry Unit 121.

What is the issue with picking up a arrowhead?  I've found a couple, never thought a thing about picking it up and taking it home.
This state is pretty strict on indian artifacts from my understanding. I grew up in Missouri, that was my dads hobby. He had thousands of them. I checked into it when I moved here and was told it was a big no/no. Kinda dissapointing
Hope I'm wrong, some others that have lived here longer maybe can chime in

dunno if this is an everywhere thing or just a wetside thing but over here on the wetside if you see an indian artifact, arrowhead, or a dog bone leave it there or the entire place will be dug up and ruined or youll get a fine and they will tell you "that they knew it was there and had it marked but left it to preserve the history?"

A few years back on a whitetail deer hunt we were doing a push and when all the hunters returned to the meeting spot CL (initials to protect the innocent) held up a hanky that he said he found on a game trail and asked if anyone lost it and SM told him to drop it  :bdid:.  CL asked why and SM said that he used it as a butt wipe but it was not left on a trail.  CL did not believe him (it was folded very nicely) and opened it and as soon as he saw the racing stripe he dropped and was grossed out  :yike:.  We all laughed so hard our bellies hurt for the rest of the week.  Every year we retell the story and bust up belly laughing all over again.  :chuckle:

Not my story but my buddy was hiking with his girlfriend up by index and they came around the corner and there was a guy who just came out of the woods big guy. He stopped in the middle of the trail and he was naked from the waste down holding his junk and laughing at them. He started walking towards them and my buddy freaked out and didn't know what to do. He drew his pistol on him and asked him what the f he was doing and told him to get out of there. The guy turned around around and walked back into the woods. I couldn't stop laughing when he told me even know it's some pretty scary stuff.

Seems about right for the woods near index... Those woods are crawling with tweeker camps.

My FIL had an orchard in E Wenatchee. Asked him if he ever found any and his comment was if he did he never said anything about it, or it would turn into a archeological study site
