Eastside coyotes

 I'm planning on taking a weekend or 3 day trip to the dryside to hunt coyotes sometime in February,   I have a fair amount of experience calling coyotes but only in the trees on the green side of the cascades,  This will be a first for me.  I'm hoping to get the opportunity to shoot at a yote from more than 200 yards, and possibly see more than 1 or 2 in a week.    My options are open.  Fuel is relatively inexpensive, so now is the time.   what parts of the state should I look at for # of dogs and hunting access?   What is the biggest difference in hunting open country vs timber?   call louder?  longer stands?  any advice is greatly appreciated.    I'm more than happy to do a hunt swap or info swap, and feel free to P.M. me

Any place east of the cascades to the Idaho or Oregon line. Alot of feel free and public land, just have to do some research. When and what area are you thinking?

You mind sharing some tips for timber. Not looking for locations just looking for some tips on calling. Frequency, type of call, time of day, length of calling sequence etc etc. I went today and didn't cut any track on the roads in fresh snow but felt a little like I was winging it.

That pretty much describes my target area as of now,   I'm hoping to narrow it down a bit with the help of the forum.  I also plan on spending some time researching maps and google earth.

From my experience where I live, the coyotes are very smart. They get shot at all the time in fields. They're hard to call because they seem to know something isn't quite right. I would find a rancher, I've done it by asking of course, to shoot coyotes around there calving area.

Forgot, I asked ranchers that I didn't know, just driving around looking and got permission. They hate coyotes since calves are worth a lot of money now.

I know a rancher who lives near the Swanson Lake Rec Area. She backs up to it. She's got 23,000 acres including the Rec Area.

You might need a snowmobile in some spots because of access. The roads are fairly good, but some could be very, very muddy and 4 WD is a lost cause to. Been there.

Not sure why all these guys are lying to you...... There are NO coyotes on the east side of the state.

Mosses is a good area but called a lot, as is the tri cities area. I don't know about the Wenatchee or Yakima areas... Let me know what your up to!

When are you thinking of going? If its a weekend off and your going solo maybe we can meet up. I'm just learning to call but have done very very well for coyotes off the land we deer hunt.

Doesn't seem to be much for people calling in the area and plenty of open land.

Looks like the last Saturday in February, I will be headed to Moses LK  I'm about 0- for 40 on stands on this side of the hump,  hoping to break my losing streak east of the mountains.   Seth30 may be tagging along, or driving? or passing out in the backseat of my rig till it's time to shoot?

Check out seep lakes or gloyd seeps. Large tracts of land that should hold stink dogs

I would hit HWY 28 between Wilson Creek and anywhere east for 20-30 miles. They litter the fields around there. Just be careful to stay away from area 201. Or get a boat and hit potholes on the westside of the lake, it should all be thawed by now. The way I figure the more people that shoot them, the less farmers need to worry about them.

Many farmers in my area won't allow killing of coyotes.  Reason is that they do a good job of controlling rodents. 

Cattle guys don't like them, though.

Some small areas are poorly marked wildlife bird refuges, and you can't hunt. Signs are missing, rusted or nonexistent. Found out the hard way, but great day. 3 dogs down.

What's the fine for wildlife refuge hunting? Did you keep your rifle?
