Sick or injured buck
« on: August 18, 2015, 12:08:07 AM »
Crap, the little three point buck that has been around was lying in the middle of the driveway like he had been knocked over, breathing really hard. Then when he saw me he tried to get up and finally on the third try made it but ran like he could not keep up with his legs, then stood in the tall grass swaying ready to fall over again. Probably will need to call the WDFW tomorrow to come take care of him if he's out there.

Sounds like he won't make it through the night.  A neighborhood dog will probably kill him for fun.  Sucks.

He probably got hit by a car. Too bad, you hate to see them suffer.

Bummer.  Doubt WDFW will do anything.  They generally take a hands off stance on wounded wildlife.

I went out this morning looking for him, no where to be found in all the normal areas. I watched him for a while last night and he did not look injured, more like he was sick. Almost looked like how a drunk acts, wonder if he got toasted on the fermenting berries and fruit on the ground. When out there you can smell them going bad.
As far as WDFW not doing anything, every time I have called they have had someone come out, 5 times since we moved here in '89.

That's a pretty good reason why shooting an animal that appears to be mortally wounded is frowned upon and can result in a citation. It's tough to watch an animal suffer but it's usually best to call it in before shooting.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

Perhaps all he needed was a glass of ice water.
