I'd like to hear about how others are doing up there as well. Any suggestions on bait/tackle would be greatly appreciated.

What are you planning on targeting? Chinook or steelhead?

With the amount of Chinook in the river right now, sometimes steelhead can be hard to find. They often aren't in their normal lies because the kings have pushed them out. Fish tailouts and extreme heads of runs. Also hit pocket water in very fast sections. The steelhead are very keyed to king eggs this time of year so, eggs, beads, corkies, ez-eggs, etc can produce very well. For Kings, big spinners, big gobs of eggs/shrimp under floats tend to be the better producers.

There are mass fish in the river, and will continue to be for a couple weeks. After the kings begin to fade out towards the end of the month, the steelhead fishing will get better.

Thanks for the info... I can't wait to get out. Does anybody know if these fish stay in the middle section of the river or do they run up to the hatchery area?

The only guide I would hire there is Jeff Geary. Geary's guide service. He lives in Klickitat and knows the fish better than anyone I know there. Great guy too.

I would second that on Jeff!! Great guy and he knows that river like the back of his hand  Only problem is that it is hunting season and I'm not sure if he is taking on any trips.
