dead coyote ( story added)
« on: February 02, 2009, 07:22:50 AM »
ok This was either the dumbest coyote ever or I am a GREAT caller! I was getting ready yesterday morning and while gathering my gear I ran acroos a clip it my .17 hmr and thought why not?? so I take my .17 hmr fully knowing the limitations. My first stand before I even start to call I spot a coyote way to far to shoot. so I call and here he comes he comes in to about 50 yards and I missed him clean :bash: he runs out about 400 yards and stops turns around and looks back my way. I cant even explain what made me even try but I call again and he comes back! Got him to about 80 yards, he turns broadside and I shoot him right behind the front shoulder, down he goes.  :IBCOOL: I hike up to him flip him around looking for damage and there isnt any? hmm. I drag him to the truck load him in the dead critter basket and take him home for pics. I get him home and we do some further examination and he never bled not one drop :dunno: Wife thinks I gave him a heart attack.

Shot one dead center in the chest at about 10yds once using a 22-250/55BT.  I only use the 250 if I can't find something else that day as I really think it is minimal for coyotes.  Not a single drop of blood showed in the hair unless you looked next to the skin.

My first deer died the same way. . .I shot at a doe and she took off like a speeding bullet, low to the ground and fast. . .took a shot at her on the run and missed again. . .one round left in the Remington 1100 and I turn around and there is a deer just standing there about 75 yards away looking at us and not doing anything. . .I take my time, aim and it drops instantly. . .no thrashing or anything. . .we get to it and we can't find an entrance hole, exit hole, or any blood, but it was definitely dead. . .and you would think that if it got hit with a 3" 12 ga. slug that you would be able to figure out where it got hit!!!

I was hunting in Illinois so there is no rifle season. . .only slug gun, bow, handgun, and black powder seasons. . .
