Shw me your Mountain bike
« on: September 25, 2016, 09:43:09 AM »
I bought a Mountain bike for scouting/hunting behind the gates and it really lets you cover some serious ground compared to walking. I haven't customized at all yet, first off I need to add a gun rack. I was hoping some of you could just post some pics of your mods that help you carry your gear and gun when going in. It's a bit cumbersome peddling with a pack and a rifle so I'm curious to see your solutions.

I learned the hard way that a gun mount on the handle bars don't help if you crash!
If you want my rifle mounts you can have them mine stays on my back . I have a light on my bars and fenders other then that its my trailer with my goods in it

Rifle goes across my back. Pack goes in the trailer. I do have gun racks on the handlebars but the only gun I'll carry that way is a cheap single shot shotgun for grouse.

Havent done a whole lot of research but had the same idea.  The one I had looked at had a max load of like 25lbs, so not very helpful.  I was looking at cargo trailers and they did 80, Im guessing game carts do more.

Those carts look awesome I was just going to pack it out on a pack frame on my back and make a couple trips but those carts look like the cat's meow.

Get a game cart. The only way to go. We've drug them through some nasty stuff and they hold up well and do wonders for getting game out. I like the attachments for the bike. I'm stealing that idea.

Does the attachment up high like that cause any handling issues? To me it looks like a load could try to toss you around a bit

Even the cheap kid trailers have a 100lb rating. That's enough for a pack filled with boned out meat from a deer.

Rad,

I don't have this bike but here are the details. I'm in the used Schwinn price point.

I've had the racks loaded with 60 pounds each and it did well.  I would love to get a used bike trailer that I could modify to care game in.

Labs07,

As others have pointed out there is a significant benefit in capacity with the trailer. Can you speak to any other benefits over racks/panniers?

TIA,

I just have the racks and no panniers.  I can just tie stuff or bungee stuff to the racks and it has worked great so far.  If I kill an Elk or deer soon we will see if it can handle what I want to put on it.

I attached my game cart to the seat post using heim joints, then pinned one shaft for easy removal if the cart is needed for packing to and from the road.  Basically heims allow it to move in almost any direction without jerking the bike around.
I haven't used it yet, just filled the cart with bags of sand to test.  Works great in the driveway  :chuckle:

Sorry I don't have a pic of it.

This is where I see the cart being more beneficial.
