Late vs early archery

So this was my first year elk hunting, was into elk a lot during early but never got the chance to seal the deal. Headed to SW again the end of November for late elk. Just trying to figure out how I should hunt, is it about the same to early? I.e. Calling elk in. Or is it more trying to jump the elk from where they're hiding. Any tips would be appreciated greatly, and if you need any info for up in whatcom or skagit county I'd be glad to return the favor. Good luck and thank you

I don't hear that many talking after mid November.  The elk will mostly be kind of spooky after having been chased all over by the different hunting groups, unless you have some private that doesn't get much pressure.  Seems the ones that make it through the earlier seasons either stick close to the herd or go hang out solo in some protected piece of ground like a bench with lots of huckleberry plants and small conifers.

Hunting elk in the snow could only end one way . me at the bottom of some ravine looking like a yard sale and being plucked out of the woods by you guessed it ...Get to the choppah !!! But of course im talking hunting elk not parching some missle launcher on the hood of your car and getting something .. Then jump on a snow rocket scare everything out there tear up the woods and get it all on video so you can put it on facepage so everybody can see hey ! Look at me do stuff ! Ambush during the late season works well but I've literally  walked them down . They tire faster than you think.

In my experiences I dont get much chance to hunt in the snow, when I do, I relish it especialy if its fresh snow. If you have fresh snow then I would cover lots of ground on foot through some likely areas of cover trying to cut fresh tracks, and as said before, follow the tracks quietly. However with no snow most of the time I tend to find areas that they can cover in easily and that give a good chance of finding track. My favorite is getting up under the 15-20 year old growth that is still thick but gives just enough room to walk around instead of crawl. These areas I speak of have very little brush on the ground and its mostly soft dirt with moss and fir needles all over. Makes for good tracking. If you jump a group it makes following tracks easier as the ground is tore up more, however that means they will likely be a little more spooky when you do catch up to them.

Hey coach ! Where do u do that sounds great but in the snow ?

open country , they will haul ass the first time and each time go less by the end of the day you can typically get close or split them up and intersect . kinda like a wolf right. plus you stay warm hiking all day , carry lots of water most guys don't drink enough when its cold . my elk is in the freezer so maybe this year I can watch football .

Its almost too late for u to set up a trail cam so find a spot/trail u know for sure they got to travel on to go feed or water up then commit to sitting there every evening for 5 to 7 days back to back and u will have a good chance.  Just be ready cuz they will come in unexpected  and fast  so make sure your D-looped up with arrow knocked up and have about 4 or 5 trees or rocks range found cuz u wont have time to range the bull and most likely there will be cows all around u so u will not have the luxury of being able to move around and range find  and knock an arrow ect. and keep ur smell way way down big time. Walk in to ur spot the opposite way the elk come in and get settled in 2 hours b4 i feel is a good time to b set up.  Good luck

Like some others have said find track and walk then walk some more.  I will call cow off and on I spend a lot of time in the timber.

Walking is good too. I bust out with a cow or calf call when ever i accidentally break a large branch or mistakenly make a loud noise as im trying to walk in the woods as quiet as I can.  Idk if it works but it makes me feel not as stupid and helps with my confidence that I didn't spook anything away.
