Who is going out late muzzle loader?
« on: November 05, 2017, 02:04:37 PM »
Just curious how many guys are going out late muzzleloader on the westside deer/elk. This will be my first hunting season ever! I 've been getting out and scouting and trying to get myself ready for the late season. Who is heading out this Nov? Jason

I'll be out in hancock for late muzzy deer, great time of year to be out there.  I hardly see any people during that hunt, good luck.

If I get the approval from the doctor I will be out of my cast/boot combo and it's highest on my list if I am able.  People it depends where you go, two years ago I ran into some real *censored*s.  They actually raced passed my to get to a spur road with a couple of great cuts.   Last year I saw a number of trucks at the gate and didn't see any other hunters.

Count yourself lucky if you don't get soaked.  If you plan on staying multiple days make sure you have a second set of rain gear.   Otherwise have dryer available.  It's fun, can be seriously nasty, the days are short, the bulls are tucked into the deep dark and steep.

Enjoy, have fun, and be safe

I'm headed to ID in a couple days with a ML elk tag (Beaverhead unit) then back to WA for the late ML season with a Washougal cow tag.

One of my sons drew a Washougal cow tag too.  My oldest son works for DNR down in that area. They have high hopes.

The bucks are still out although it doesn't seem like they are rutting.  I was in Hancock last two days, saw a total of 10 does but no bucks with them.  Saw a bunch of fresh rubs.  Had a three point at 30 yards that I should have killed but was a tad too slow and he made it into the brush before I could squeeze one off.  Had a two point yesterday at 100 yards that I rushed the shot and clean missed :dunno:

Over here in Whitman County trying to fill my 2nd deer tag with the Knight Mountaineer.  Hopefully our snow today will encourage deer to move around!

Been out 3 full days now in 139 both days last weekend and yesterday and man has it been slow. Deer movement in the first hour and last hour of daylight has been fair, but during the days I have little to no deer movement.  I've jumped deer and a few good bucks, so they are around, but they have been hunkered down tight during the days.  I have seen next to zero rut activity (I did see one unicorn spike chasing a doe that actually stopped and let him breed).  My best guess is this warm weather (highs have been in the 40's and lows are not really dipping below freezing) has been allowing them to get all the food they need over night.
