Turkey scouting help

My name is Tim, I’m a newbie to this site and hunting in wa. I decided to give turkey hunting a try. I’ve never done it before and have taken the advice of “start scouting now”. I live on the Westside and plan on chasing the eastern around. I’ve been out wondering through some forest areas and have heard toms gobble first thing in the morning, but am unable to locate any turkey sign. I haven’t been using any calls, just enjoying my alone time in the woods. Does anyone have any tips on finding those birds or is just hearing them gobble in the distance good enough for right now? By the way, that is the first time I have ever heard a turkey gobble in the wild and it was awesome!!! I think I’m hooked!

The Westside Easterns are elusive.  I think you need to find the roost without spooking them, mark  the spot on your map or gps and then go back sneaky quite when hunting them and set up an ambush after they fly down

Thats the fun part of scouting.
Now that you know an area they are in, learn it.
Those birds hit the ground and start feeding.
Toms will be fighting and the hens will be watching, so they will be active.
No hens on nests yet, so just keep trying to pinpoint their location.
Dont pressure them, but it is OK to try to get a visual and try to pattern them.

Just wanted to give a big thank you to CaNINE for taking the time to give me some pointers, to Russ for the great turkey class that I attended last week and everyone else that has posted info about the west side phantoms.
 I’ve put in just under 100 miles hiking public land this spring and have loved every minute. I’ve heard a few toms gobble, found droppings on a few occasions, but haven’t seen a turkey yet. Seen bear, cougar and plenty of deer. The best part of spending all this time outside is, I haven’t seen a single person. All the peace and serenity of nature is good for the soul.
