do you take the draw chance
« on: May 04, 2018, 10:15:08 AM »
usually I will take points on either antlered moose or antlerless, in fear that if i draw both, i will lose all my points. My logic was draw the cow tag cause you can hunt them again, and then try to draw the bull tag all the same time rebuilding my antlerless points. but with all the talk of the moose population hurting and the draw odds are slim anyways, i changed my motive this year and threw my name in both hats. just curious to hear your logic or horror stories of losing points because you put in the same species but different cattagory

Odds of drawing either are so darn low that if you can hunt either, always apply. Only reason to ever ghost point any category is if you truly can't hunt it  :twocents:

With moose definitely put in for both, moose are trending in the wrong direction and it wont be long until we see significantly less permits being offered IMO.

:yeah: from what I’ve been hearing they should have cut the tags down this year!

By the numbers from 2017:

Antlerless moose: 32 permits for 8,383 applications. Chance of drawing with average points: 1 in 262.

Antlered moose: 98 permits for 17,310 applications. Chance of drawing with average points: 1 in 177.

Chance of drawing both permits: 1 in 46,272.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

About the same odds of the one person drawing both big horn sheep tags at the banquet this year???  Too soon?  :chuckle:

Put in for both.  Chances of drawing a bull permit are almost nothing.  Most of us will never draw in our lifetime.  Total antlerless permits are just over half they were 2 years ago.  Seeing a trend here.

Exactly. I always apply for both, drew a cow tag about 5 years ago. Probably the only moose I’ll ever harvest.

But I’ll still wish you good luck.

I seriously hope you draw.

I drew antlerless in 2016, beyond my beliefs.  Never thought I'd ever draw any type of moose permit in this state.  It's possible, not probable.  Just keep putting in and donating $$ to the state, sigh.
